Job Description

Madamfo Ghana Foundation is seeking a skilled and motivated Workshop Manager to lead its bamboo carpentry unit in Kumasi. The position combines technical know-how, leadership, and sustainability awareness to produce high-quality bamboo products.

Contract: 6-12 months (renewable, project-based)

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily workshop operations from bamboo treatment to final product.
  • Supervise and train carpenters, artisans, and apprentices.
  • Ensure quality, safety, and efficiency in all production stages.
  • Plan production schedules and control workflow and material use.
  • Oversee bamboo sourcing, drying, and maintenance of machines and tools.
  • Manage budgets, procurement, and cost tracking.
  • Support design and innovation of new bamboo products.
  • Keep accurate production and labour records, prepare short reports.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Collaborate with local communities and suppliers to strengthen the bamboo value chain.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Diploma/Degree in Wood Technology, Carpentry, Industrial Design, or related field.
  • Proven experience in workshop or production management (bamboo or wood preferred).
  • Good knowledge of bamboo processing techniques is an advantage.
  • Strong skills in MS Word & Excel; design software AutoCAD a plus.
  • Excellent organization, leadership, and communication abilities.
  • Hands-on mentality, reliability, and environmental awareness.
  • Willingness to work in a practical, developing environment.
