Role Overview

AFIDEP seeks an experienced and strategic Communication and Policy Engagement Manager to lead the organization’s communication and policy influence agenda. The successful candidate will drive the visibility of AFIDEP’s work, strengthen policy engagement, and ensure that research evidence effectively informs decision-making across multiple sectors and regions.


Key Responsibilities

Communications, Visibility, and Profiling

  • Design and lead the implementation of AFIDEP’s communications and policy engagement strategy
  • Strengthen and position AFIDEP’s brand as a leading policy institute in evidence-informed development
  • Lead the development and publication of institutional outputs, including annual reports, newsletters, website content, social media, and flagship publications
  • Support evidence synthesis, packaging, and dissemination across key thematic areas including population dynamics, health, education, climate change, governance, and economic wellbeing
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with media outlets to enhance evidence uptake in public discourse
  • Promote the dissemination of research findings and stimulate informed public and policy debates

Partnerships and Resource Mobilization

  • Build and sustain partnerships with governments, donors, academic institutions, and development partners at national, regional, and global levels
  • Engage with key stakeholders and end users to promote the uptake of research evidence
  • Contribute to fundraising efforts through concept development and proposal writing

Capacity Strengthening

  • Support internal and external initiatives to strengthen capacity in communicating and using research evidence for policy and decision-making
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and learning across stakeholders and partners

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Communications, Media, International Relations, or a related field
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in science or development communications, including at least three years at the international level
  • Excellent writing and technical editing skills, particularly for policy and media outputs
  • Strong presentation and public speaking abilities
  • Proficiency in publications design, website management, and social media platforms
  • Strong understanding of public policy making processes and the role of evidence in influencing policy
  • Proven ability to translate research into impactful advocacy and policy engagement strategies
  • Demonstrated success in leading policy influence initiatives at national, regional, or international levels
  • Strong understanding of African socio-political contexts and global development trends
  • Experience facilitating advocacy and stakeholder engagement initiatives
