Position Summary

The Ghana Railway Development Authority is seeking an experienced and results-oriented Heavy Locomotive Maintenance Officer to oversee the maintenance and operational reliability of diesel-electric locomotives and heavy railway equipment. The successful candidate will support maintenance planning, fault diagnosis, safety compliance, and coordination with operational teams to ensure efficient railway operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise scheduled inspections, servicing, and preventive maintenance activities for diesel-electric locomotives and heavy railway equipment.
• Plan, coordinate, and monitor fault diagnosis and repair activities for mechanical systems and locomotive components.
• Ensure compliance with railway safety standards, maintenance procedures, and operational requirements.
• Coordinate with engineering and operations teams to optimize locomotive performance and minimize downtime.
• Monitor maintenance schedules and ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks and repairs.
• Prepare and maintain accurate maintenance reports, inspection records, and operational documentation.
• Support troubleshooting activities and provide technical guidance to maintenance personnel.
• Promote adherence to workplace health, safety, and environmental standards within maintenance operations.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing equipment reliability and operational efficiency.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
• Minimum of four (4) years relevant industrial experience in locomotive maintenance, heavy equipment maintenance, or related engineering operations.
• Strong understanding of railway maintenance procedures and heavy mechanical systems.
• Demonstrated leadership, planning, and supervisory skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
• Knowledge of workplace safety standards and maintenance compliance procedures.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.
