Position Summary
The Supply Chain Manager / Business Planner will play a critical role in aligning demand, production, procurement, inventory, and distribution activities to support business objectives. The successful candidate will lead forecasting, sales and operations planning (S&OP), production scheduling, supplier management, inventory optimization, and logistics coordination to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations.
This position requires a highly analytical and results-oriented professional with strong planning capabilities, commercial awareness, and the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple functions.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Business Planning
Demand Forecasting
- Analyze historical sales data, customer trends, and market intelligence to develop accurate demand forecasts.
- Monitor market developments and customer demand patterns to improve forecast accuracy.
- Support business planning activities, particularly during peak production and sales periods.
Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP)
- Lead monthly Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) meetings involving Sales, Finance, Procurement, Production, and Logistics teams.
- Align production capacity, inventory levels, and procurement plans with customer requirements and business objectives.
- Facilitate cross-functional decision-making to support operational efficiency and service excellence.
Risk Management
- Identify potential supply chain risks, including raw material shortages, supplier disruptions, transportation delays, and capacity constraints.
- Develop and implement contingency plans to minimize operational disruptions.
- Monitor supply chain performance and proactively address emerging risks.
Production Planning & Scheduling
Capacity Management
- Convert customer demand and sales forecasts into detailed production schedules.
- Optimize the utilization of manufacturing assets, including corrugators, die-cutters, printers, and related production equipment.
- Balance production workloads to maximize efficiency and throughput.
Lead Time Management
- Establish realistic production and delivery lead times based on capacity, inventory availability, and operational priorities.
- Collaborate with customer service and sales teams to ensure accurate customer commitments.
Bottleneck Resolution
- Identify production constraints and operational bottlenecks.
- Implement corrective actions to minimize downtime, improve workflow efficiency, and maintain production schedules.
- Work closely with production and maintenance teams to resolve operational challenges.
Procurement & Inventory Control
Raw Material Sourcing
- Manage supplier relationships to ensure a reliable supply of paper, inks, starch, and other production materials.
- Support sourcing initiatives that achieve quality, cost, and delivery objectives.
- Participate in supplier negotiations and contract management activities.
Inventory Optimization
- Maintain optimal inventory levels to support uninterrupted production while minimizing excess inventory and working capital requirements.
- Monitor inventory turnover, stock accuracy, and material consumption trends.
- Implement inventory management strategies that improve efficiency and reduce waste.
Supplier Performance Management
- Develop and maintain supplier performance scorecards.
- Monitor supplier quality, reliability, responsiveness, and on-time delivery performance.
- Collaborate with suppliers to drive continuous improvement and strengthen supply chain performance.
Logistics & Distribution Management
Transportation & Carrier Management
- Select, evaluate, and manage transportation providers to ensure cost-effective and reliable inbound and outbound logistics operations.
- Optimize transportation routes and logistics processes to improve efficiency and service delivery.
Delivery Performance
- Monitor and improve On-Time In-Full (OTIF) performance metrics.
- Coordinate with production, warehousing, and logistics teams to ensure timely order fulfillment.
- Implement initiatives that enhance customer satisfaction through improved delivery performance.
Performance Analysis & Continuous Improvement
- Analyze supply chain performance data and identify opportunities for operational improvement.
- Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to forecasting accuracy, inventory management, supplier performance, production efficiency, and logistics performance.
- Lead initiatives that improve productivity, reduce costs, and strengthen overall supply chain effectiveness.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement programs across the organization.
Qualifications & Experience
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Supply Chain Management
- Business Administration
- Industrial Engineering
- Operations Management
- Logistics and Supply Chain Management
- Or a related discipline from a recognized institution
Professional Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in supply chain management, business planning, production planning, or manufacturing operations.
- Proven experience within packaging, manufacturing, FMCG, industrial production, or other high-volume manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated experience managing forecasting, production scheduling, procurement, inventory control, and logistics operations.
Professional Certifications
The following certifications will be highly advantageous:
- Membership in a recognized Supply Chain Management professional body.
- APICS / ASCM Certifications.
- CIPS Qualifications.
- Lean Six Sigma Certification.
- Other relevant supply chain or operations management certifications.
