Position Summary
The Electrical Technician will be responsible for the installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and fire safety systems. The successful candidate will support project delivery, ensure compliance with safety standards, and provide high-quality technical services that meet client requirements and industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Commissioning
- Install, configure, test, and commission fire alarm systems and associated control panels.
- Install emergency lighting systems, backup power units, and other electrical safety equipment.
- Support the implementation of fire detection, fire suppression, and life-safety systems.
- Interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and project specifications to ensure accurate installations.
- Ensure all installations comply with project requirements, industry standards, and company quality expectations.
- Conduct system testing and commissioning activities before project handover.
Maintenance & Servicing
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and servicing of electrical and fire safety systems.
- Ensure equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably at all times.
- Maintain service schedules and complete maintenance activities within agreed timelines.
- Carry out system upgrades, replacements, and modifications as required.
- Recommend preventive measures to improve equipment performance and reliability.
Troubleshooting & Repairs
- Diagnose and resolve electrical faults, system malfunctions, and equipment failures.
- Troubleshoot fire alarm systems, control panels, emergency lighting systems, and related installations.
- Respond promptly to emergency service calls and system breakdowns.
- Identify root causes of technical issues and implement effective corrective actions.
- Recommend system improvements to enhance safety, reliability, and performance.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all installation and maintenance activities comply with electrical safety standards, fire safety regulations, occupational health and safety requirements, and company policies.
- Promote safe work practices and maintain a safe, hazard-free work environment.
- Conduct work in accordance with approved safety procedures and risk assessments.
- Report safety concerns, defects, incidents, and non-compliance issues promptly.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing workplace safety.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare accurate service reports, maintenance records, inspection reports, and technical documentation.
- Document completed work, materials used, test results, and recommendations.
- Maintain up-to-date project and maintenance records.
- Ensure proper filing and management of technical and operational documentation.
Project Support
- Collaborate with Engineers, Project Managers, Safety Officers, and other technical personnel during project execution.
- Support project planning, testing, commissioning, and handover activities.
- Provide technical support and recommendations to clients and internal stakeholders when required.
- Assist in achieving project timelines, quality standards, and client satisfaction objectives.
Qualifications & Experience
Educational Requirements
- Diploma, NVTI Certificate, or equivalent qualification in:
- Electrical Engineering
- Electrical Installation
- Electromechanical Engineering
- Or a related technical discipline
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of practical experience in:
- Electrical Installation and Maintenance
- Fire Alarm Systems
- Fire Safety Equipment
- Building Electrical Systems
- Experience within the fire protection, fire safety, or building services industry will be a significant advantage.
