Position Summary
The College Principal serves as the Chief Executive Officer and academic leader of the College, providing strategic direction and oversight for all academic, administrative, financial, and operational activities. The successful candidate will work closely with the Governing Council, Academic Board, staff, students, and stakeholders to advance the College’s mission, strengthen institutional performance, and position the College as a leading centre of excellence in teacher education.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the attainment of the mission, vision, and objectives of the College.
- Exercise overall responsibility for the academic, administrative, and financial affairs of the College.
- Ensure the effective implementation of decisions of the Governing Council and Academic Board.
- Promote excellence in teaching, learning, research, innovation, and community engagement.
- Foster a culture of integrity, accountability, discipline, and professionalism consistent with the College’s faith-based values.
- Mobilize resources, grants, partnerships, and investments to support institutional growth and sustainability.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with staff, students, alumni, regulatory bodies, development partners, and other stakeholders.
- Promote and safeguard the image, reputation, and public standing of the College.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, statutes, policies, and governance frameworks governing Colleges of Education in Ghana.
- Lead institutional planning, quality assurance initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Perform any other duties assigned under the relevant statutes and conditions of service.
Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate must:
- Be a distinguished scholar and accomplished educator with a strong record of academic achievement.
- Possess a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree or an equivalent terminal qualification from a recognized institution.
- Hold a rank not below that of Associate Professor in a College of Education, university, or comparable tertiary institution.
- Have at least ten (10) years of progressive teaching and/or research experience.
- Possess a minimum of five (5) years of senior management or leadership experience within a tertiary education institution.
- Demonstrate proven leadership and managerial competence with a successful track record of institutional development.
- Possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrate the ability to formulate, implement, and evaluate strategic plans, policies, and institutional initiatives.
- Have the capacity to inspire confidence, motivate staff, and promote teamwork and collaboration.
- Exhibit high moral character, integrity, fairness, and sound judgment.
- Possess in-depth knowledge of Ghana’s higher education sector, educational reforms, and national development priorities.
- Demonstrate commitment to the Christian values and faith-based identity of the College.
Terms of Appointment
- Applicants must not be more than fifty-six (56) years of age at the time of application.
- The appointment shall be for an initial term of four (4) years.
- The appointment may be renewed for one additional term only, subject to satisfactory performance and applicable regulations.
- Salary and conditions of service shall be in accordance with the Harmonized Conditions of Service for Colleges of Education in Ghana and the approved terms of appointment of the College.
