Position Summary
The Cyber Security Control Operations Specialist will design, implement, monitor, and optimize security controls across Telecel Ghana’s digital infrastructure. The successful candidate will lead hands-on security operations, strengthen threat detection and response capabilities, and ensure compliance with global cybersecurity standards and regulatory frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
Security Operations and Incident Response
- Operate and optimize Security Operations Center (SOC) processes to detect, analyse, and respond to cybersecurity threats.
- Investigate security incidents and coordinate timely containment, eradication, and recovery actions.
- Correlate threat intelligence with internal security telemetry to identify emerging risks and attack patterns.
- Support incident response activities and provide actionable insights to improve response effectiveness.
Security Tools and Platform Management
- Deploy, configure, and integrate security tools including SIEM, SOAR, EDR, and DLP solutions across enterprise systems.
- Monitor and tune security platforms to improve detection accuracy and operational efficiency.
- Ensure continuous visibility across endpoints, networks, applications, and cloud environments.
Vulnerability Management and Risk Reduction
- Conduct advanced vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify security weaknesses.
- Prioritize vulnerabilities based on risk exposure and business impact.
- Collaborate with IT and infrastructure teams to ensure timely remediation of security gaps.
- Track remediation progress and report risk posture to management.
Security Architecture and Compliance
- Align security controls with industry frameworks including NIST, ISO 27001, and CIS Controls.
- Support compliance with regulatory and internal cybersecurity requirements.
- Contribute to the design and enforcement of secure architecture across on-premise, hybrid, and cloud environments.
- Strengthen identity and access management (IAM), encryption, and monitoring practices across AWS, Azure, and GCP environments.
Threat Intelligence and Continuous Improvement
- Leverage external threat intelligence platforms to enhance detection and prevention capabilities.
- Analyse attack trends and provide recommendations for proactive defence improvements.
- Continuously improve security monitoring, detection rules, and operational playbooks.
- Support security awareness and knowledge sharing across technical teams.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5+ years of progressive experience in cybersecurity, with strong hands-on technical experience in security operations or engineering roles.
- Proven experience working in enterprise cybersecurity environments with complex infrastructure.
Certifications (Advantageous)
- Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
- GIAC Penetration Tester (GPEN)
- CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+)
- Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP)
- GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH)
Technical Skills and Competencies
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks including NIST, ISO 27001, and CIS Controls.
- Expertise in SIEM, SOAR, EDR, and DLP deployment, configuration, and integration.
- Strong ability to conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing using industry-standard methodologies.
- Solid experience in threat intelligence analysis and correlation of security events.
- Strong knowledge of securing cloud environments across AWS, Azure, and GCP, including IAM, encryption, monitoring, and compliance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure in high-severity incident environments.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly document and report technical findings.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills across technical and business teams.
