Key Responsibilities
As the Health and Safety Officer, you will:
- Develop, implement, and monitor health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and programmes.
- Ensure compliance with applicable occupational health and safety legislation, industry standards, and organizational policies.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections, site audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses, and prepare detailed reports with recommendations to prevent recurrence.
- Deliver health and safety inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness training for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Monitor the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure compliance with established safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate health and safety records, inspection reports, incident logs, and compliance documentation.
- Support emergency preparedness activities, including evacuation drills and incident response planning.
- Collaborate with project teams, contractors, and management to promote a positive safety culture.
- Monitor contractor compliance with health and safety requirements on project sites.
- Recommend continuous improvements to strengthen health, safety, and environmental performance.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following or a related discipline:
- Construction Management
- Civil Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Environmental Science
- Occupational Health and Safety
- Environmental Engineering
- Or another relevant field.
Professional Certifications
Applicants must possess:
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC)
The following certifications will be an added advantage:
- IOSH Managing Safely
- ISO 45001 Internal Auditor
- First Aid Certification
- Fire Safety Training
- OSHA Certification
- Environmental Management Certifications
Experience
Applicants should possess:
- Previous experience as a Health and Safety Officer, HSE Officer, Safety Coordinator, or in a similar role.
- Experience within the construction, engineering, manufacturing, infrastructure, or industrial sectors.
- Practical knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices.
- Experience conducting risk assessments, workplace inspections, incident investigations, and safety training.

- Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify workplace hazards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Good planning, organizational, and time management skills.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- High ethical standards, professionalism, and sound judgment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and HSE reporting tools.
