Position Summary

The Electrical Technician will support the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of electrical systems and production equipment to ensure maximum plant reliability, operational efficiency, and product quality. The successful candidate will execute preventive maintenance activities, respond to equipment breakdowns, maintain technical documentation, and work collaboratively to support production targets while upholding the highest standards of safety and engineering excellence.

Key Responsibilities

As an Electrical Technician, you will:

  • Promote a strong safety culture by complying with all Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental (OHSE) standards, operational procedures, Permit-to-Work requirements, and safe work practices while proactively identifying and addressing unsafe conditions and behaviours.
  • Ensure compliance with all Food Safety and Quality Management System requirements to support the production of safe, high-quality products.
  • Operate, inspect, clean, maintain, and troubleshoot assigned electrical equipment and plant systems to ensure reliable performance.
  • Execute planned preventive maintenance activities to maximize equipment availability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns by diagnosing faults, performing repairs, and restoring operations safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor equipment performance, identify non-conformances, and implement corrective actions to achieve Right First Time (RFT) performance.
  • Manage maintenance materials, spare parts, and electrical components efficiently while maintaining accurate inventory accountability.
  • Support colleagues during maintenance activities, equipment troubleshooting, and emergency breakdown responses to ensure minimal production downtime.
  • Work closely with the Shift Manager and cross-functional teams to achieve production targets, operational objectives, and agreed service levels.
  • Participate in technical training programmes, share knowledge with team members, and contribute to the continuous development of colleagues and contractors.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, condition monitoring logs, equipment history, and other technical documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance equipment reliability, energy efficiency, and manufacturing performance.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in operations, maintenance, process control, or performance management within a brewery, beverage, food manufacturing, FMCG, or similar industrial environment.
  • Practical experience in electrical maintenance, industrial automation, and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), preferably SAP, will be an added advantage.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

  • Strong knowledge of electrical maintenance principles, industrial electrical systems, and fault diagnosis techniques.
  • Good understanding of industrial automation systems and electrical control equipment.
  • Sound knowledge of preventive maintenance methodologies, continuous improvement practices, and structured problem-solving techniques.
  • Working knowledge of Permit-to-Work systems, Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) policies, statutory requirements, and safe working procedures.
  • The ability to read, interpret, and apply electrical schematics, technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and maintenance documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate technical records.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • High levels of professionalism, accountability, integrity, and commitment to operational excellence.
