Position Summary
The History Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging History lessons, assessing student learning, and creating an inclusive classroom environment that promotes critical thinking and intellectual curiosity. The ideal candidate will possess strong subject knowledge, excellent teaching skills, and a commitment to student success.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging History lessons in accordance with the Ghana Education Service curriculum and school standards.
- Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, assignments, and assessments that support effective learning.
- Teach local, African, and world history using engaging and learner-centred teaching approaches.
- Prepare students for WASSCE and other relevant examinations.
- Assess students’ academic performance through assignments, projects, tests, presentations, and examinations.
- Monitor student progress and provide timely academic support where needed.
- Encourage students to develop critical thinking, research, analytical, and interpretation skills.
- Promote meaningful discussions that help students understand historical events and their relevance to contemporary society.
- Create and maintain a disciplined, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and academic progress.
- Integrate technology and innovative teaching methods into classroom instruction where appropriate.
- Participate in departmental meetings, academic planning sessions, and school activities.
- Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and school management to support student development.
- Support students’ personal growth, discipline, and overall academic achievement.
- Perform other duties assigned by school management.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess:
- Bachelor’s Degree in History Education, History, Social Studies Education, Education, or a related discipline.
- Professional teaching qualification or a recognized teaching licence will be an advantage.
- Minimum of 2–3 years’ teaching experience at the Senior High School level.
- Proven experience teaching History and preparing students for WASSCE examinations.
- Strong knowledge of the Ghanaian Senior High School History curriculum.
