Job Summary
The Advisor, Health & Safety – Apensu Underground will support the implementation and continuous improvement of health and safety systems within underground operations. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with safety regulations, promoting a strong safety culture, and supporting risk management initiatives to protect employees, contractors, and company assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor health and safety programs in line with company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Provide guidance and technical support to operational teams on safety management systems and best practices.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
- Investigate safety incidents and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Support the development and implementation of risk management and loss prevention strategies.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through employee engagement, training, and awareness initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with relevant local health and safety legislation and industry regulations.
- Maintain accurate safety records and prepare reports on safety performance and compliance.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
- Health, Safety and Environmental Officer’s Certificate of Competency from the Minerals Commission of Ghana.
- Valid Class B Ghanaian Driver’s License.
Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience working as a Health and Safety Professional, preferably in the mining or heavy industry sector.
Additional Knowledge and Skills
- Strong knowledge of local health and safety legislative requirements.
- Solid understanding of Safety Management Systems and operational safety practices.
- Experience in risk management and loss prevention processes.
- Knowledge of relevant regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Strong communication, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience with health and safety investigation processes.
- Proficiency in risk assessment methodologies.
- Understanding of change management fundamentals.
