Position Summary

The Advisor, Security – Underground Mine will provide expert guidance and leadership in security risk management, critical infrastructure protection, and underground mine security operations. The role ensures the implementation of robust security frameworks that safeguard personnel, assets, and operations while aligning with global security standards and human rights principles.

The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening security systems, managing risks, and supporting crisis response within a high-risk underground mining environment.

Key Responsibilities

Security Risk Management & Strategy

  • Develop and implement security strategies to protect underground mining operations and critical infrastructure.
  • Conduct security risk assessments and recommend mitigation measures.
  • Monitor emerging security threats and advise management on proactive responses.
  • Ensure alignment of security operations with corporate policies and international standards.

Underground Mine Security Operations

  • Oversee security operations within underground mining environments.
  • Ensure effective access control, perimeter security, and personnel protection measures.
  • Support enforcement of security protocols across operational sites.
  • Coordinate security activities to ensure safe and uninterrupted mining operations.

Security Systems & Technology

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of integrated security systems, including CCTV, access control, and alarm systems.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance security monitoring and response capabilities.
  • Ensure proper functioning and utilization of security technologies across sites.

Incident Response & Crisis Management

  • Lead and support incident response and crisis management activities when required.
  • Apply incident command principles to manage security events effectively.
  • Conduct investigations into security breaches, incidents, and irregularities.
  • Prepare detailed incident reports and recommend corrective actions.

Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership

  • Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and external security agencies.
  • Provide expert advice to management on security risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Promote a strong security culture across the organization.
  • Engage with stakeholders to ensure alignment on security objectives.

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure all security operations comply with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Promote adherence to safety, ethical conduct, and human rights principles.
  • Support audits and reviews of security systems and processes.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, applicants must possess:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Security Management, Risk Management, Criminology, or a related field.
  • A Professional Security Certification (mandatory):
    • Physical Security Professional (PSP), and/or
    • Security Management Certification, or ISO certifications (ISO 28000 / ISO 18788 or equivalent).

Experience

Applicants should have:

  • A minimum of 2–5 years of experience in security management.
  • At least 5 years of experience working in mining or high-risk industrial environments, preferably underground operations.
  • Proven experience in:
    • Critical infrastructure protection.
    • Security risk management.
    • Operation of security systems (CCTV, access control, and related technologies).
