Position Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Assistant Academic Head to support the Academic Head in providing strategic academic leadership across the school. The successful candidate will oversee curriculum implementation, supervise teaching staff, strengthen instructional quality, and ensure effective academic planning and delivery.

This role requires a strong academic leader who is passionate about education, committed to excellence, and capable of driving performance across all academic departments.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Leadership & Supervision

  • Support the Academic Head in providing strategic direction for academic programs and instructional delivery.
  • Supervise Heads of Department, teachers, and academic teams to ensure effective curriculum implementation.
  • Monitor teaching standards and promote continuous improvement in instructional quality.
  • Ensure compliance with academic policies, curriculum requirements, and educational standards.

Curriculum & Instructional Management

  • Oversee curriculum planning, development, and implementation across all subjects.
  • Coordinate academic calendars, lesson planning, and instructional schedules.
  • Monitor learner assessment processes to ensure fairness, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Lead initiatives to improve student performance and learning outcomes.
  • Support the integration of educational technology and digital learning tools.

Examinations & Quality Assurance

  • Oversee examination planning, vetting, administration, and moderation processes.
  • Ensure academic assessments meet institutional and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate academic performance data to inform decision-making.
  • Implement quality assurance mechanisms to maintain high academic standards.

Teacher Development & Capacity Building

  • Design and facilitate teacher training and professional development programs.
  • Coach and mentor teachers and Heads of Department to enhance instructional effectiveness.
  • Promote best practices in pedagogy, classroom management, and learner engagement.
  • Support performance appraisal processes for academic staff.

Reporting & Academic Administration

  • Prepare detailed academic reports for management and governing bodies.
  • Present academic performance updates and strategic recommendations to leadership.
  • Maintain accurate academic records, documentation, and performance data.
  • Ensure effective use of digital academic management systems.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with administrators, teachers, parents, and external education partners.
  • Support communication between the academic department and school leadership.
  • Contribute to school-wide initiatives aimed at improving learner success and institutional performance.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum Studies, or a related field.
  • Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Professional teaching qualification or licensure is required.
  • Strong background in academic leadership and instructional supervision.
  • Experience supervising teachers, Heads of Department, and academic teams.
  • Experience in curriculum supervision, examination management, and learner assessment.
  • Experience designing and delivering teacher professional development programs.
  • Strong knowledge of pedagogy, instructional delivery, and learner development.
  • Proficiency in educational technology and digital academic management systems.
  • Experience in academic reporting and strategy implementation.
