Position Overview
OCEANA seeks a highly experienced and strategic Campaigns & Advocacy Director to lead the design and execution of high-impact campaigns in Ghana. The Director will drive policy and legislative change, build influential partnerships, and manage complex stakeholder environments to advance ocean conservation goals.
You will provide senior leadership to campaign teams, shape advocacy strategies, and engage directly with high-level decision-makers to secure measurable outcomes for marine protection and sustainable fisheries.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and execution of national campaigns focused on ocean conservation and sustainable fisheries.
- Drive policy and legislative advocacy efforts that result in measurable environmental outcomes in Ghana.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government officials, policymakers, regulatory bodies, civil society organizations, and community leaders.
- Engage high-level decision-makers to influence policy direction and advance OCEANA’s strategic priorities.
- Oversee the planning and execution of high-impact advocacy events, coalitions, and public mobilization efforts.
- Manage and mentor a high-performing campaigns team, fostering accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
- Translate scientific research and policy analysis into clear, persuasive advocacy messages.
- Monitor political, regulatory, and fisheries developments and adjust campaign strategies accordingly.
- Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines and campaign milestones.
- Ensure alignment of all campaign activities with OCEANA’s global mission and standards.
- Represent OCEANA in high-level forums, media engagements, and stakeholder meetings with professionalism and authority.
- Travel as required to support campaign activities and stakeholder engagement.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with at least 8 years of relevant campaign or advocacy experience; OR
- Advanced degree with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 4 years of proven management experience leading teams.
- Demonstrated success in achieving policy or legislative change in Ghana or comparable contexts.
- Strong understanding of Ghana’s political, regulatory, and fisheries or environmental governance landscape strongly preferred.
- Proven experience engaging senior government officials and managing complex stakeholder environments.
- Valid authorization to work in Ghana is required.
- Willingness and ability to undertake some travel.
