Communication and Cultural Officer

Location: Accra, Ghana
Employment Type: Full-Time

We are seeking a creative, proactive, and highly organised Communication and Cultural Officer to support our communication, public diplomacy, and cultural engagement initiatives.

Role Purpose

The Communication and Cultural Officer will lead the Embassy’s communication and public diplomacy efforts by developing engaging content, managing digital communication platforms, coordinating cultural programmes, and strengthening relationships with key stakeholders. The successful candidate will play a vital role in enhancing Denmark’s visibility and promoting meaningful cultural and diplomatic engagement in Ghana and the region.

Key Responsibilities

Communication & Public Diplomacy

  • Develop and implement strategic communication initiatives that enhance Denmark’s visibility and engagement in Ghana and the wider region.
  • Produce high-quality communication materials, including articles, speeches, press releases, presentations, newsletters, and digital content.
  • Manage and regularly update the Embassy’s communication platforms, including the website, social media channels, and other digital communication tools.
  • Develop compelling stories and multimedia content that communicate Denmark’s priorities, partnerships, and activities to diverse audiences.
  • Support media engagement activities and contribute to effective public diplomacy campaigns.
  • Monitor communication trends and recommend innovative approaches to strengthen audience engagement.

Cultural Affairs & Event Management

  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver cultural and public diplomacy events, including official visits, conferences, seminars, exhibitions, networking events, and public engagement activities.
  • Manage projects related to music, literature, performing arts, exhibitions, and other cultural exchange programmes.
  • Coordinate event logistics, stakeholder engagement, communications, and post-event reporting.
  • Support initiatives that strengthen Denmark’s cultural profile and diplomatic relationships across the region.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain productive relationships with journalists, media professionals, cultural institutions, communication specialists, diplomatic missions, international organisations, and development partners.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of communication and cultural initiatives.
  • Represent the Embassy professionally during meetings, public engagements, and official events where required.

Qualifications, Experience & Competencies

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Event Management, International Relations, or a related discipline.

Experience

  • Demonstrated experience organising and managing high-level events, communication campaigns, and public engagement activities.
  • Experience working within embassies, international organisations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), or multicultural environments will be a strong advantage.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in French will be an added advantage.
  • Strong storytelling, content development, presentation, and public communication skills.
  • Experience managing websites, social media platforms, and digital communication channels.
  • Excellent project management and event coordination skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, networking, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Good understanding of international affairs, public diplomacy, and cultural exchange.
  • Creative thinking with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse audiences.
