Role Overview

Amnesty International Ghana is seeking an experienced and visionary Country Director to lead its national operations and drive its human rights agenda. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, oversee programme delivery, and represent the organization at the highest levels.

This role requires a dynamic leader with a deep understanding of human rights issues, strong stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to inspire teams while delivering measurable impact.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for Amnesty International Ghana’s programmers and operations.
  • Lead and manage staff, resources, and budgets to ensure effective and efficient delivery of objectives.
  • Analyze national and sub-regional human rights trends and develop innovative strategies to address emerging challenges.
  • Represent the organization in engagements with government institutions, media, civil society, and international stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with partners, donors, and advocacy networks.
  • Develop high-quality funding proposals and oversee the implementation of funded projects.
  • Work closely with the Board and report directly to the Chair, ensuring strong governance and accountability.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and high performance within the organization.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Extensive senior-level experience in the human rights field, including leadership of teams and budget management.
  • Strong understanding of national and sub-regional human rights and political dynamics.
  • Proven track record of leadership, influence, and impact across diverse teams and environments.
  • Experience representing an organization to media, government, and international stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising, proposal development, and managing restricted funding projects.
  • Experience working with or reporting to a Board or governance structure.
  • An advanced degree in Human Rights, Law, Social Sciences, or a related field is an advantage.
