Role Purpose

The Country Lead – Ghana provides strategic, operational, and representational leadership for the Westerwelle Foundation’s activities in Ghana. The role drives ecosystem engagement, partnership development, team leadership, and program execution while aligning local operations with the Foundation’s global strategy. The Country Lead acts as the primary ambassador of the organization in Ghana and contributes to regional and continental collaboration across Africa.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Ecosystem Leadership

  • Lead the development and execution of the Foundation’s country strategy in Ghana.

  • Strengthen the startup and entrepreneurship ecosystem through partnerships, programs, and thought leadership.

  • Represent the Westerwelle Foundation with key stakeholders, including startups, corporates, development partners, investors, and public institutions.

Operations & Performance Management

  • Oversee day-to-day country operations, ensuring effective execution of programs and initiatives.

  • Manage budgets, resources, and operational processes to deliver measurable results.

  • Track performance, monitor impact, and report outcomes in line with organizational standards.

Team Leadership & Culture

  • Lead, coach, and support the Ghana team, fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and high-performance work environment.

  • Set clear objectives, manage performance, and ensure accountability for results.

  • Promote collaboration across local and global teams within the Foundation’s international structure.

Partnerships, Revenue & Fundraising

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with corporates, donors, and strategic partners.

  • Support partnership development, fundraising efforts, and proposal development.

  • Identify opportunities for revenue generation, membership models, or workspace-based initiatives where applicable.

Regional & Global Collaboration

  • Contribute to regional and global initiatives by sharing insights, best practices, and ecosystem intelligence.

  • Support expansion efforts and cross-country learning within Africa and beyond.

    Educational & Experience Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience or

    • Master’s degree with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in Business Administration, Economics, Marketing, International Development, Entrepreneurship, or a related field.

    • Certifications in project management, business, or entrepreneurship are preferred.

      Required Experience & Competencies

      • Strong familiarity with Ghana’s startup and entrepreneurship ecosystem, with proven credibility and partnership-building ability.

      • Familiarity with the broader African market is highly desirable.

      • Minimum of 2 years in a leadership role with responsibility for teams and outcomes.

      • Demonstrated experience in operational execution, budget management, performance tracking, and results delivery.

      • Experience engaging corporates, development partners, or strategic partners.

      • Experience with sales targets, revenue generation, workspace, or membership models is an advantage.

      • Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and communicate clearly within a global team structure.

      • Fluency in English is required; additional languages are an advantage.
