Role Overview
Last Mile Health seeks an experienced and strategic Director, Donor & Award Compliance to provide leadership and oversight of donor compliance, grants, and awards management. The Director actively ensures that institutional donor requirements are met while enabling teams to deliver high-impact programs efficiently and ethically.
This role serves as a trusted advisor across the organization, working closely with finance, programs, legal, and leadership teams to strengthen compliance systems and promote shared accountability. The position is based in Accra, and candidates must reside in Accra.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee donor compliance across all grants, contracts, and awards
Ensure full compliance with institutional donor regulations, including USG, World Bank, UNICEF, Global Fund, FCDO, and others
Strengthen organizational systems and controls for grants and awards management
Partner with cross-functional teams to embed shared responsibility for compliance
Provide strategic guidance and practical solutions to complex compliance challenges
Review and support proposal development, award negotiation, and post-award management
Build strong relationships with donors and external stakeholders
Lead, mentor, and support high-performing compliance and grants teams
Translate regulatory requirements into clear, actionable guidance for staff
Promote ethical conduct, transparency, and accountability across the organization
Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in leadership, decision-making, and operations
Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field
Extensive experience managing compliance for institutional donors (USG, World Bank, UNICEF, Global Fund, FCDO, etc.)
Proven experience in international development organizations, with strong expertise in contracts, grants, and awards management
Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing effectively to high-performing teams
Strong track record of collaborating across functions with shared accountability for compliance
Experience working in INGOs or multicultural environments, with the ability to build trust and guide diverse teams
Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop practical, equitable, and sustainable solutions to complex issues
Proven ability to take initiatives from concept to successful implementation
Visionary leadership style that values diverse perspectives and fosters collaborative decision-making
High standards of ethics, integrity, and confidentiality
Strong cultural competence and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
