Position Purpose

The Driver – BORDER Project will provide safe, efficient, and reliable transportation services in support of project operations while contributing to the effective management and maintenance of project vehicles and equipment. The role will ensure the safe transportation of staff, partners, visitors, and project materials while maintaining high standards of vehicle performance, fleet compliance, and operational readiness.

The successful candidate will support field operations through effective transport coordination, preventive maintenance, basic mechanical troubleshooting, and adherence to World Vision’s safety and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

Transportation of Staff and Visitors

  • Safely transport World Vision staff, partners, consultants, and visitors to and from project locations and official assignments.
  • Ensure timely and professional transportation services that support program and operational activities.
  • Adhere to all road safety regulations, organizational policies, and transport procedures.
  • Maintain a high standard of professionalism, courtesy, and confidentiality when interacting with passengers.
  • Support the transportation of project materials, supplies, and equipment as required.

Fleet and Vehicle Maintenance

  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections to ensure operational readiness and roadworthiness.
  • Monitor vehicle condition and coordinate routine servicing, preventive maintenance, and repairs.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle maintenance records and service schedules.
  • Report vehicle defects promptly and ensure corrective action is taken.
  • Coordinate with the Fleet Manager and approved service providers to ensure vehicles remain in optimal operating condition.

Mechanical Support and Troubleshooting

  • Perform basic mechanical troubleshooting and minor repairs when required.
  • Assist in diagnosing vehicle and equipment issues to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Support maintenance teams and service providers during repair activities.
  • Ensure mechanical issues are resolved promptly to maintain continuity of project operations.

Transport and Logistics Support

  • Coordinate transport schedules to maximize vehicle utilization and support project implementation.
  • Assist in the movement of project equipment, materials, and supplies to field locations.
  • Support logistics planning and transportation requirements for project activities and events.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure transport services align with operational priorities and timelines.

Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with World Vision’s fleet management policies and safety standards.
  • Conduct regular vehicle safety inspections and verify that required safety equipment is available and functional.
  • Maintain valid vehicle documentation, licenses, and insurance records.
  • Promote safe driving practices and responsible vehicle use.
  • Immediately report accidents, incidents, or safety concerns in accordance with organizational procedures.

Fleet Monitoring and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle mileage, fuel consumption, maintenance activities, and usage.
  • Monitor vehicle performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.
  • Prepare routine reports on vehicle utilization, maintenance requirements, and fuel consumption.
  • Support fleet performance monitoring and contribute recommendations for operational improvements.

Emergency Response Support

  • Respond promptly to emergency transportation needs, including urgent project activities, medical evacuations, and vehicle breakdown situations.
  • Facilitate the rapid deployment of vehicles and resources during emergencies.
  • Support business continuity and field operations by ensuring vehicles remain operational and available when needed.

Qualifications and Experience

Education and Professional Certification

  • Diploma or equivalent qualification in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Transport Management, or a related field.
  • Certification in fleet management, vehicle maintenance, or automotive repair will be an added advantage.
  • Valid driver’s license with authorization to operate both light and heavy vehicles, including 4×4 vehicles and trucks.
  • Additional certifications in vehicle maintenance or mechanical systems are highly desirable.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience in driving, fleet operations, vehicle maintenance, or mechanical repair.
  • Demonstrated experience operating both light and heavy vehicles in challenging field environments.
  • Experience supporting logistics and transport operations within development, humanitarian, or project-based organizations is an advantage.
  • Proven experience maintaining vehicle records, service schedules, and fleet documentation.
  • Experience providing basic mechanical support and troubleshooting vehicle-related issues.

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

Technical Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of vehicle mechanics, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair procedures.
  • Experience managing fleet operations and maintaining multiple vehicles in field settings.
  • Proficiency in using vehicle diagnostic tools and maintenance tracking systems.
  • Understanding of preventive maintenance practices and fleet performance monitoring.
  • Ability to identify mechanical issues and recommend effective solutions.

Operational and Logistics Skills

  • Strong transport planning and coordination skills.
  • Ability to manage vehicle schedules, maintenance requirements, and logistics activities effectively.
  • Good record-keeping and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of service delivery.

Safety and Compliance

  • Thorough understanding of road safety regulations and vehicle operating standards.
  • Strong commitment to occupational health and safety practices.
  • Ability to conduct vehicle inspections and ensure compliance with fleet management policies.
