Role Overview

The Mastercard Foundation is seeking an experienced and strategic Employee Relations Specialist (Consultant) to manage and support employee relations across our African offices. The role will provide guidance on industrial relations, labor law compliance, conflict resolution, and HR best practices. The successful candidate will handle sensitive matters with discretion while promoting a positive and productive workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice and guidance on employee relations matters across multiple African offices

  • Interpret and ensure compliance with African labor laws and organizational policies

  • Lead investigations into employee grievances, disputes, and disciplinary matters, ensuring fairness and confidentiality

  • Support management in conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation processes

  • Develop and implement employee relations strategies, policies, and frameworks

  • Partner with HR and management teams to enhance workplace culture and employee engagement

  • Track and report trends in employee relations, providing recommendations for improvement

  • Support training and capacity-building initiatives on employee relations and labor law compliance

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Law, or a related field

  • 8–10 years’ experience in Employee Relations or Industrial Relations within Africa

  • Strong knowledge of African labor laws, dispute resolution mechanisms, and HR best practices

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills

  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion

  • HR/IR certification (e.g., SABPP, CIPD, or equivalent)

  • Experience working in multinational or pan‑African organizations is highly desirable
