We are seeking a motivated and technically skilled Engineer, Short-Term Planning to support daily and weekly mine planning activities at our Ahafo operations.


Position Summary

The Engineer, Short-Term Planning develops and maintains short-term mine plans that support safe, efficient, and cost-effective open pit mining operations. The role focuses on translating longer-term mine plans into executable daily and weekly drilling and blasting schedules while ensuring compliance with safety, operational, and environmental standards.

The Engineer works closely with mine operations, drilling and blasting teams, and technical services to ensure plans are practical and achievable.


Key Responsibilities

The Engineer, Short-Term Planning will:

  • Develop daily, weekly, and monthly short-term mine plans in line with production targets.

  • Prepare detailed drilling and blasting designs and schedules for open pit operations.

  • Ensure blast designs comply with safety, regulatory, and operational requirements.

  • Coordinate closely with drilling, blasting, and mine operations teams to support effective execution.

  • Monitor plan execution and recommend adjustments based on operational performance.

  • Support reconciliation of planned versus actual drilling, blasting, and production outcomes.

  • Identify opportunities to improve blasting efficiency, fragmentation, and cost control.

  • Ensure compliance with Newmont’s safety, environmental, and operational standards.

  • Prepare technical reports and planning updates for supervisors and management.


Required Qualifications and Experience

Education and Certification

  • Degree in Mining Engineering.

  • Blasting Certificate of Competency is required.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in open pit drilling and blasting operations.


Technical Skills and Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of open pit drilling and blasting principles and practices.

  • Experience with short-term mine planning and execution support.

  • Ability to interpret mine designs and translate them into practical execution plans.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Effective communication and coordination skills.

  • High commitment to safety and operational discipline.
