Job Summary

The Geotechnical Engineer will provide technical expertise in geotechnical engineering to support safe and efficient open pit mining operations. The role focuses on slope stability, ground control, geotechnical monitoring, and risk mitigation while ensuring compliance with regulatory and operational standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct geotechnical assessments and provide recommendations for safe mine design and operations
  • Monitor slope stability and ground conditions using geotechnical instrumentation
  • Analyze geotechnical and hydrological data to support decision-making
  • Develop and implement ground control and risk mitigation strategies
  • Collaborate with mine planning and operations teams to optimize pit designs
  • Manage geotechnical risks and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support dewatering system design, estimation, and performance monitoring
  • Prepare technical reports and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate with contractors and stakeholders on geotechnical projects

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Earth Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field
  • Mineral Commission Statutory Certification as required by the region or relevant professional certification

Additional Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering, hydrology, and mine design
  • Demonstrated experience in geotechnical instrumentation, monitoring, and data analysis
  • Solid knowledge of slope stability and risk mitigation techniques
  • Practical understanding of mine operations
  • Knowledge of risk management and business improvement practices
  • Understanding of project and/or contract management principles
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills

Experience

  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in an open pit mining environment with a strong background in geology and hydrology
  • Experience using MineSight software
  • Proficiency in geotechnical and hydrological software such as Rocscience (Dips, Slide, Phase2, RocFall)
  • Experience in dewatering system engineering, estimation, and modeling
  • Demonstrated experience in geotechnical and hydrological modeling and interpretation
