Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Audit – Ghana and Senior Audit Manager – Functions to lead our Group Internal Audit (GIA) function in Ghana. The successful candidate will provide independent assurance, drive audit strategy, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements while maintaining the highest standards of professional integrity.

Key Responsibilities

Audit Delivery

  • Lead assigned audit engagements, managing audit teams to deliver high-quality outputs in line with GIA methodology and timelines.

  • Provide guidance, technical input, and challenge to Team Leaders and members to ensure effective delivery of audit assignments.

  • Review audit reports, monitor action plan implementation, and escalate unresolved issues to senior management.

  • Ensure audit work meets regulatory requirements, internal policies, and Group standards.

Strategy & Risk Management

  • Align the Ghana audit function with the Group strategy, ensuring emerging and systemic risks are identified and managed.

  • Maintain awareness of industry best practices, regulatory expectations, and internal changes to adapt audit plans as required.

  • Deliver GIA performance scorecards and ensure audit plans remain relevant throughout the year.

People & Talent Management

  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing, independent audit team.

  • Ensure staff are adequately trained, resourced, and professionally developed to meet local and regulatory expectations.

  • Set clear objectives, provide performance feedback, and foster a culture aligned with the Bank’s values and priorities.

  • Promote diversity, inclusion, and engagement within the team.

Governance & Compliance

  • Serve as a key management personnel under Bank of Ghana guidelines, subject to regulatory approval.

  • Provide independent assurance to the Board, Executive Management, and regulators.

  • Maintain professional integrity, challenge management where necessary, and escalate issues proactively.

Educational Requirements & Experience

  • First Degree and Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • ACCA or ACA professional accounting certification.

  • Minimum 15 years post-qualification experience, with at least 12 years in the banking industry and 10 years in financial management/accounting.

  • Minimum 5 years in a senior audit role within banking.

  • Demonstrable experience with audit requirements in Ghana and regulatory engagement.

  • Professional audit certification preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and people management skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with ability to influence and gain respect of senior management and stakeholders.

  • High integrity, independence, and courage to escalate issues professionally.

  • Sound understanding of regulatory landscape, governance, risk management, and audit methodologies.

  • Experience in managing complex projects, technology systems, and information security within audit functions.

  • Ability to travel internationally to support GIA activities and deliverables.
