About the Junior Teacher Programme
The Junior Teacher Programme provides aspiring educators with the opportunity to develop practical teaching expertise within the GIS learning environment. Participants will work alongside experienced teachers, gain classroom experience, and build the professional skills required to deliver impactful learning experiences.
The programme is designed to develop future-ready educators who demonstrate strong teaching practices, leadership potential, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Programme Objectives
Empowerment Through Experience
- Participate actively in immersive classroom experiences while gaining practical teaching skills under the guidance of experienced educators.
- Develop confidence through meaningful involvement in lesson preparation, classroom activities, and student support.
Exposure to Innovative Educational Practices
- Engage with modern teaching methodologies, educational technologies, and international best practices.
- Learn approaches that promote creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and student-centred learning.
Cultivation of Passion and Leadership
- Develop a strong passion for education and a commitment to positively influencing learners.
- Build leadership skills that support future success within the education sector.
Strategic Educator Development
- Prepare highly skilled educators who can contribute effectively to Ghana International School and the wider education community.
- Develop participants with the potential to transition into permanent teaching roles based on performance and institutional needs.
Programme Structure and Responsibilities
Orientation and Professional Training
Junior Teachers will participate in comprehensive orientation and development sessions covering:
- Effective teaching methodologies and instructional strategies.
- Classroom management techniques.
- Professional standards, ethics, and responsibilities of educators.
- Literacy, Numeracy, Science, and Special Educational Needs (SEN) support.
- Child-centred learning approaches and safeguarding practices.
Yearly Progression
Year 1: Foundation and Observation
- Observe experienced teachers and participate actively in classroom activities.
- Support lesson delivery under close supervision and mentorship.
- Develop foundational teaching skills and classroom confidence.
Year 2: Supported Teaching Practice
- Take on approximately 10% teaching responsibility with guidance from experienced mentors.
- Receive regular feedback to strengthen teaching effectiveness and professional growth.
Year 3: Increased Teaching Responsibility
- Take on approximately 20% teaching responsibility while continuing structured mentorship and evaluation.
- Develop greater independence in lesson planning, delivery, and assessment.
Year 4: Professional Readiness
- Undertake advanced teaching responsibilities under the direction of senior leadership.
- Demonstrate independent instructional capability and readiness for professional teaching roles.
Evaluation and Certificate of Completion
- Participate in regular assessments conducted by mentors, programme coordinators, and senior leadership.
- Receive continuous feedback and professional guidance throughout the programme.
- Obtain a certificate of completion upon successfully meeting programme requirements, recognising professional development and readiness to teach at an international standard.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must possess:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Education (B.Ed) or a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (P.G.D.E) from an accredited Teacher Education programme in Ghana or an internationally recognised equivalent qualification.
- A strong passion for teaching, learning, and child development.
- A commitment to professional growth and continuous improvement.
- The ability to work collaboratively within a diverse educational community.
