We are seeking an accomplished and visionary Medical Director to provide strategic clinical leadership, strengthen healthcare delivery, and support the Hospital’s commitment to clinical excellence, education, research, and innovation.

Job Summary

The Medical Director will provide strategic oversight of all clinical services, ensuring the highest standards of patient care, clinical governance, research, and postgraduate medical education. The successful candidate will lead the coordination of clinical directorates, drive quality improvement initiatives, strengthen institutional policies, and promote excellence in healthcare delivery while supporting the Hospital’s long-term strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership and Governance

  • Provide strategic leadership for all clinical services across the Hospital.
  • Coordinate and align the operations of all clinical directorates to improve service delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee institutional quality improvement, utilization management, risk management, and patient safety initiatives.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor clinical guidelines that align with hospital policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Chair and lead institutional medical boards and clinical governance committees as required.

Clinical Service Delivery

  • Monitor and evaluate clinical performance indicators to ensure continuous improvement in patient care.
  • Develop strategies to improve healthcare outcomes, patient safety, and service quality.
  • Ensure equitable allocation of clinical personnel across departments to support efficient healthcare delivery.
  • Provide expert advice on workforce planning, staffing requirements, and clinical resource utilization.

Research, Education, and Training

  • Lead the development and expansion of the Hospital’s research and development programmes.
  • Promote clinical research and evidence-based medical practice throughout the institution.
  • Coordinate postgraduate clinical education and specialist training programmes.
  • Support continuous professional development initiatives for medical and dental professionals.

Human Resource Leadership

  • Participate in the recruitment, selection, and retention of highly qualified medical and healthcare professionals.
  • Mentor senior clinicians and promote leadership development across clinical teams.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, professionalism, accountability, and continuous learning.

Policy Development and Strategic Management

  • Develop and implement clinical policies, standards, and operational frameworks that support institutional objectives.
  • Prepare and present reports on clinical performance, service delivery, and quality improvement initiatives to executive management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to strengthen healthcare delivery, research, education, and clinical governance.

Educational Qualification & Experience

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • A qualification as a Medical or Dental Practitioner that is registerable with the Medical and Dental Council.
  • A Fellowship from a recognized Postgraduate Medical College.
  • A Diploma or Master’s Degree in Management, Healthcare Management, Public Health, Hospital Administration, or a related field will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of twelve (12) years of post-qualification professional experience.
  • At least five (5) years of experience serving at the level of a Senior Specialist.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical leadership, healthcare policy development, clinical service improvement, research management, and advanced technical report writing.
