Role Overview
The Optometrist provides comprehensive eye care services, including vision assessment, diagnosis, and management of ocular conditions. This role requires a strong commitment to patient care, clinical excellence, and adherence to professional and ethical standards. The successful candidate actively contributes to delivering accurate diagnoses, effective treatment plans, and positive patient experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive eye examinations to assess visual acuity, ocular health, and refractive status.
Diagnose and manage common eye conditions and refer complex cases appropriately.
Prescribe corrective lenses and provide professional advice on eye care and vision correction options.
Perform and interpret diagnostic tests related to eye health and vision assessment.
Educate patients on eye health, preventive care, and proper use of prescribed optical devices.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in line with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with ophthalmologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated patient care.
Adhere strictly to clinical protocols, infection prevention standards, and ethical guidelines.
Participate in continuous professional development and quality improvement initiatives.
Educational Qualifications & Experience
Postgraduate Diploma in Optometry or Doctor of Optometry (OD) from a recognized institution.
Completion of at least one (1) year internship at a recognized health facility.
Valid professional training and clinical exposure in optometric practice.
Professional Registration
Must provide evidence of current registration with the Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC) of Ghana.
