We are seeking a highly experienced and safety-focused Principal, Mining Contract to provide strategic oversight of mining contractor activities and ensure safe, efficient, and compliant mining operations.

Position Summary

The Principal, Mining Contract will lead the management and oversight of mining contractors to ensure operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and the achievement of production objectives. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, monitor contractor performance, promote a strong safety culture, and coordinate mining activities in line with company standards and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Mining Operations Management

  • Lead and oversee mining contractor activities to ensure safe, efficient, and productive mining operations.
  • Coordinate daily mining activities to achieve production targets while maintaining operational excellence.
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure compliance with contractual obligations and operational requirements.
  • Optimize mining processes to improve productivity, equipment utilization, and operational efficiency.

Contract and Technical Oversight

  • Manage mining contracts and collaborate with contractors to achieve agreed performance objectives.
  • Provide technical guidance on drilling, blasting, excavation, haulage, and related mining activities.
  • Support the planning and execution of mining projects in collaboration with operational teams.
  • Identify operational risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.

Safety, Compliance and Risk Management

  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across all mining activities.
  • Train, mentor, monitor, and supervise employees and contractors in safe work practices and operational procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, mining legislation, Inspectorate Division regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Conduct regular inspections, audits, and performance reviews to improve safety and operational performance.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Geology, Geotechnical, Maintenance, Engineering, and Production teams to support efficient mine operations.
  • Provide operational input into mine planning and resource utilization.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance productivity, cost efficiency, and operational reliability.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess one of the following:

  • A Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Mining Engineering or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;

OR

  • A Secondary School Certificate with a minimum of 20 years of relevant mining experience.

In addition, applicants must be:

  • Certified by the Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission of Ghana as a Mining Captain or a higher competency level.

Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in mining operations in a similar role within the mining industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of contract management, mine operations, drilling and blasting, maintenance, geology, and geotechnical engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience managing mining contractors and leading operational teams in large-scale mining environments.
  • Practical operating knowledge of mining equipment, including excavators, drills, haul trucks, loaders, and other mining support equipment.
  • Proven ability to lead safety initiatives and ensure compliance with statutory regulations and company standards.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of surface mining operations and contractor management.
  • Sound understanding of mining legislation, safety systems, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to make sound operational decisions in a fast-paced mining environment.
  • Commitment to operational excellence, continuous improvement, and workplace safety.
