We are seeking an experienced Principal Studies, Africa to lead complex project and study activities that support strategic decision-making across Newmont’s African portfolio.


Position Summary

The Principal Studies, Africa leads the planning, coordination, and delivery of complex technical, economic, and risk-based studies that inform major investment and development decisions. The role provides leadership across multidisciplinary teams to ensure studies meet technical, regulatory, financial, and risk management requirements.

This role works closely with regional and global stakeholders to deliver high-quality study outputs aligned with Newmont’s governance, safety, sustainability, and value creation standards.


Key Responsibilities

The Principal Studies, Africa will:

  • Lead and manage multiple complex project studies and evaluations across Newmont’s African operations and projects.

  • Plan, scope, and execute study phases, including concept selection, pre-feasibility, feasibility, and other major evaluations.

  • Integrate technical, financial, environmental, social, and regulatory inputs into coherent study outcomes.

  • Manage multidisciplinary study teams, including internal technical experts and external consultants.

  • Oversee study schedules, budgets, risk registers, and deliverables to ensure timely and high-quality completion.

  • Apply robust risk assessment and mitigation processes throughout study execution.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, governance, and internal assurance requirements.

  • Engage effectively with internal stakeholders, joint venture partners, and external consultants.

  • Prepare and review high-quality technical reports, investment cases, and executive-level presentations.

  • Support decision-making by providing clear analysis, recommendations, and trade-off assessments.

  • Foster collaboration across culturally diverse teams and global functional groups.


Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • University-level qualifications in Project Management, Geoscience, Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Demonstrated industry experience leading complex major studies is required.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of professional experience, including:

    • At least two (2) years in project or study management

    • Experience in risk assessment and regulatory compliance

Core Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong project management and study management capabilities.

  • Proven ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

  • Advanced data analysis, synthesis, and report preparation skills.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple workstreams simultaneously.


Additional Experience and Competencies

  • Proven experience managing three or more complex evaluations concurrently.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within diverse cultural and multidisciplinary environments.

  • Experience collaborating with contracted technical experts and corporate functional teams in global settings.

  • Proven contribution to and management of large-scale projects or studies across multiple domains with varying financial and risk profiles.
