About the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA)

The Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) is the continental apex organization responsible for coordinating and advocating for Agricultural Research for Development (AR4D) across Africa. FARA serves as the technical arm of the African Union Commission (AUC) on matters relating to agricultural research, science, technology, and innovation.

Headquartered in Accra, Ghana, FARA provides a strategic platform that brings together stakeholders in Agricultural Research for Development (AR4D) to shape Africa’s agricultural research agenda and coordinate responses to continental and global development priorities.

As part of its strategic mandate, FARA coordinates the LEAP4FNSSA Project and serves as a key implementing partner of the Consortium Europe–Africa on Research and Innovation for Food Systems Transformation (CEA-FIRST). This bicontinental initiative operationalizes the International Research Consortium (IRC) on Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture (FNSSA) under the AU–EU High-Level Policy Dialogue (HLPD) Roadmap.

Position Summary

FARA is seeking a highly organized and proactive Project Administration Officer to provide administrative, operational, and coordination support for the successful implementation of the CEA-FIRST Project. The successful candidate will play a central role in supporting project planning, documentation, stakeholder engagement, reporting, and day-to-day project administration while ensuring the efficient delivery of project activities.

This is a full-time position based at FARA’s Secretariat in Accra, Ghana.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Project Administration Officer will:

  • Provide administrative and operational support to ensure the effective implementation of project activities.
  • Maintain comprehensive project records, correspondence, and electronic filing systems, serving as the central repository for project documentation.
  • Coordinate project meetings, workshops, webinars, training sessions, and other events, including preparing agendas, meeting materials, minutes, and logistical arrangements.
  • Monitor project work plans, reporting schedules, milestones, and deliverables to support timely implementation.
  • Assist in preparing annual work plans, budgets, progress reports, concept notes, project proposals, and Terms of Reference (ToRs).
  • Draft memoranda, official correspondence, briefing notes, reports, and other project-related documentation.
  • Conduct desk research and compile relevant information to support project implementation, reporting, and communication activities.
  • Support the dissemination of funding opportunities, project updates, publications, and announcements through appropriate communication channels.
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement activities and contribute to networking, partnership, and communication initiatives.
  • Provide administrative support throughout the project lifecycle, including project inception, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and close-out.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Project Coordinator.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

Applicants must possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Management Studies, Development Studies, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.

Experience

Applicants should have:

  • A minimum of three (3) years’ relevant professional experience in project administration, programme support, office administration, or operations within an international organization, development agency, research institution, non-governmental organization (NGO), or a similar environment.
  • Experience supporting donor-funded projects will be an added advantage.
