Quality Control Lead

About the Role

fairafric is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Quality Control Lead to oversee and strengthen quality assurance systems across its production operations in Suhum. In this role, you will actively safeguard product integrity, ensure compliance with international food safety standards, and lead a high-performing quality team. You will play a critical role in maintaining excellence across raw materials, in-process production, and finished goods.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee sampling, inspection, and testing of raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods to ensure compliance with quality specifications.
  • Ensure full adherence to regulatory standards, customer requirements, and certification schemes, including FSSC 22000, Fairtrade, and Organic standards.
  • Prepare, verify, and submit Certificates of Analysis for all finished and shipped products in a timely manner.
  • Validate shelf-life studies and support product development teams to ensure compliance and quality consistency.
  • Identify, investigate, document, and report non-conformities and ensure effective implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Conduct internal audits and supplier audits to maintain certification and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain accurate and complete quality records, including inspection results, test data, audit findings, and non-conformity reports.
  • Monitor quality performance trends and provide regular reports and insights to the Quality Manager.
  • Train, supervise, and coordinate Quality Analysts, ensuring adequate coverage across production shifts.
  • Conduct GMP and food safety inductions for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Collaborate closely with production teams to resolve quality issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure proper calibration, maintenance, and reliability of laboratory and testing equipment.
  • Oversee sanitation, hygiene compliance, cleaning effectiveness, and pest control activities, ensuring proper documentation.
  • Support the Quality Manager by verifying food safety and quality documentation when required.

Requirements

Educational Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Biological Sciences, or a related field.

Experience

  • 4–5 years of experience in quality control or quality assurance within the food manufacturing or FMCG industry.
  • Hands-on experience with food safety management systems and certification standards.

Certifications

  • Certification in Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS), HACCP, or Quality Management Systems is required.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of food safety standards, including FSSC 22000, HACCP, and GMP.
  • Proven ability to conduct internal audits and ensure certification compliance.
  • Experience in laboratory testing, inspection processes, and quality assurance systems.
  • Knowledge of sanitation, pest control, and environmental monitoring systems.
  • Strong data analysis and reporting skills for quality performance tracking.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
