Job Title: Senior Evaluation Officer (Impact Evaluations)

Organizational Setting
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) leads global efforts to eradicate hunger, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture. The Office of Evaluation (OED) supports FAO’s accountability and learning by conducting independent evaluations that inform decision-making and enhance organizational performance.
The position focuses on the design, management, and implementation of rigorous impact evaluations to assess the effectiveness, sustainability, and results of FAO interventions.
Key Results
High-quality impact evaluations are designed, implemented, and completed in line with FAO evaluation standards
Evaluation findings are effectively communicated and used to inform policy and program decisions
Methodological rigor and innovation in evaluation practices are strengthened across FAO
Knowledge products contribute to global learning on food security, agriculture, and rural development
Key Functions
Lead and manage complex impact evaluations, including experimental and quasi-experimental designs
Provide technical guidance on evaluation methodologies, data collection, analysis, and interpretation
Coordinate multidisciplinary evaluation teams and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Ensure compliance with FAO evaluation policies, quality assurance standards, and ethical guidelines
Draft high-quality evaluation reports, synthesis papers, and policy-oriented knowledge products
Promote the use of evaluation findings through presentations, workshops, and learning events
Contribute to capacity development initiatives in evaluation within FAO and partner institutions
Represent FAO in technical meetings, conferences, and peer-review processes
Minimum Requirements
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in a social science discipline (e.g. economics, sociology, psychology) or evaluation, with a strong focus on research and evaluation methods
Ten (10) years of relevant professional experience in conducting rigorous evaluations, with demonstrated expertise in impact evaluations
At least three (3) publications in peer-reviewed academic journals
Working knowledge (proficiency – level C) of English
Intermediate knowledge (level B) of other FAO official language
Technical/Functional Skills
Strong analytical and quantitative skills
Proven experience in evaluation design and advanced research methods
Excellent drafting and presentation skills
Ability to work effectively in multicultural and multidisciplinary environments
Demonstrated commitment to evidence-based decision-making
