Role Purpose

The Wagon Operator will support safe and efficient railway freight operations by handling wagon coupling and decoupling, ensuring proper cargo loading and securing, and maintaining operational safety standards within yard and rail environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out coupling and decoupling of wagons in accordance with railway operational procedures.
• Inspect wagon brakes, wheels, and general load conditions to ensure operational safety.
• Secure cargo properly and ensure correct load distribution for safe freight movement.
• Support yard operations and assist in the coordination of wagon movements.
• Maintain accurate records of wagon usage, movements, and operational activities.
• Report mechanical faults, safety concerns, and operational issues promptly.
• Adhere strictly to railway safety regulations and operational standards at all times.
• Collaborate effectively with team members to ensure smooth rail operations.
• Perform routine checks to ensure wagons are in safe working condition before movement.
• Support continuous improvement of safety and operational efficiency within the yard.

Educational Qualification

• Minimum of Senior High School (SHS) certificate or equivalent qualification.

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

• Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years’ experience in railway, logistics, or heavy transport operations.
• Good physical fitness and ability to work in demanding operational environments.
• Strong understanding of railway safety procedures and operational protocols.
• Good teamwork, communication, and coordination skills.
• High level of alertness and attention to safety standards.
• Ability to follow instructions accurately and work under supervision.
