Job Summary

Absa Bank is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Debt Analyst to support the origination, structuring, and execution of debt transactions. The ideal candidate will provide analytical insights, maintain strong client relationships, and ensure compliance with governance and risk standards while contributing to business growth and strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Transaction Management (70–75%)

• Structure and execute debt transactions while demonstrating strong business competencies.
• Develop models and stress scenarios to determine debt capacity prior to NBC approval.
• Prepare pitch books and client presentations based on thorough financial and market analysis.
• Support revenue-generating opportunities through transaction structuring and execution.
• Contribute creative, value-added ideas to maintain and develop client relationships.

Business Management

• Maintain and update the debt pipeline on a weekly basis.
• Contribute to the development of the business unit strategy.
• Conduct environmental scanning for new debt opportunities.
• Collaborate with specialist product partners (Trade, Cash, Treasury) to deliver comprehensive solutions to clients.

Risk Management

• Ensure compliance with governance, regulatory, and internal policies affecting debt finance.
• Escalate identified issues promptly and demonstrate sound judgment aligned with risk management frameworks.
• Implement control requirements and risk management processes relevant to the role.

Stakeholder Management

• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients, internal teams, and key stakeholders.
• Foster collaboration across departments to maximize business growth.
• Act with integrity, transparency, and professionalism in all dealings.

People Development (20–25%)

• Support Relationship Managers (RMs) in understanding debt products and solutions.
• Promote self-development and knowledge sharing across teams.
• Build collaborative networks across Absa Africa Debt (SA), Corporate Credit, RMs, and CCMs.
• Ensure adherence to Absa values, behaviors, and risk appetite.

Risk & Control (5–10%)

• Ensure all activities comply with regulatory requirements, the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework, and internal policies.
• Identify, manage, and report risks relevant to the role.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Commerce, Management Studies, or a related field.

Experience & Competencies:

• Strong credit risk analysis and debt market knowledge.
• Proven relationship management, negotiation, and influencing skills.
• Ability to structure and execute debt transactions while ensuring appropriate pricing and returns.
• Strong formal presentation, decision-making, and analytical skills.
• Business awareness, innovative thinking, and adaptability to change.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively and manage performance effectively.

Key Focus Over the Next 12–24 Months

• Grow the debt book and build assets on the balance sheet.
• Support coverage teams in structuring and executing deals.
• Ensure appropriate pricing, returns, and cross-sell opportunities.
