Position Overview
Newmont is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Deputy Responsible Tailings Storage Facility Engineer (D-RTFE) to support the safe design, construction, operation, and closure of tailings storage facilities (TSFs). This role is critical in ensuring compliance with global standards, maintaining operational integrity, and managing risk associated with tailings and water storage systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer (RTFE) in the management and oversight of TSFs.
- Participate actively in the design, construction, and execution of TSF raises.
- Monitor tailings deposition methods and ensure effective beach development and freeboard management.
- Ensure compliance with the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) and applicable regulatory frameworks.
- Conduct regular inspections and compliance monitoring activities.
- Contribute to risk management processes and ensure adherence to statutory legislation and safety regulations.
- Assist in the development and implementation of Emergency Response Plans (ERP) and Trigger Action Response Plans (TARP).
- Support water balance management, pumping systems, and supernatant pond control.
- Maintain and review Operations, Maintenance, and Surveillance (OMS) manuals and dam safety management systems.
- Analyze instrumentation data to support operational decision-making and TARP activation.
- Identify potential failure modes and implement preventive measures to ensure dam safety.
Educational Requirements
- Formal qualifications in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
Required Knowledge and Competencies
- Strong understanding of TSF design, construction, operation, and closure processes.
- Expertise in tailings deposition methods and freeboard management.
- Knowledge of dam safety principles and failure modes.
- Familiarity with GISTM and regulatory compliance frameworks.
- Experience in construction planning and TSF raise methodologies.
- Understanding of compliance monitoring and reporting requirements.
- Knowledge of risk management practices and statutory regulations.
- Strong grasp of water balance principles and TSF water management systems.
- Proficiency in ERP and TARP frameworks for TSFs and water storage facilities.
- Ability to interpret instrumentation data and link it to operational decision-making.
- Understanding of OMS manuals and dam safety management systems.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 5–10 years of relevant experience within a mining or tailings environment.
