Role Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and impact-driven Research Coordinator to support the coordination and delivery of ICA’s research, policy, and community engagement initiatives. The successful candidate will strengthen research systems, support policy development processes, and help ensure ICA’s work remains accountable, accessible, and community-centred.
Key Responsibilities
Research Programme Coordination & Support
- Coordinate ICA’s research initiatives by supporting timelines, deliverables, engagement, and reporting
- Assist in developing and strengthening ICA’s Research Grant Program
- Support the planning and delivery of research-related events such as webinars, report launches, and knowledge-sharing sessions
- Contribute to the development of accessible research outputs, including summaries, community reports, and tools
- Track and monitor research engagement metrics such as downloads, attendance, and feedback
- Support the Development team in preparing funding applications and donor reporting
Policy Deliverables
- Coordinate the rollout and dissemination of ICA’s Policy Toolkit
- Support the planning and delivery of “How to Use” webinars and feedback sessions
- Assist in organizing 1–2 policy workshops in collaboration with the Education & Training team
- Contribute to policy research, analysis, and development of ICA position papers
- Prepare briefing materials for ICA participation in national and international platforms (e.g., UNFCCC, UNFPII, and related forums)
Partnerships & Community Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with partner organizations, research networks, and Indigenous communities
- Support the design, distribution, and analysis of community feedback surveys
- Participate in coalition meetings and strategic engagement spaces to strengthen ICA’s visibility and learning
- Support storytelling initiatives and monthly highlights that amplify Indigenous-led climate solutions
- Strengthen engagement with ICA’s National Steering Committee and Youth Council
- Ensure research and policy outputs remain community-accountable and relevant
Systems Development
- Support the development of internal systems for monitoring, evaluation, and accountability
- Assist in reviewing and auditing ICA’s past research and policy outputs
- Document barriers faced by communities in engaging with policy systems
- Support the implementation of an efficient intake and response system for requests and inquiries
Internal Coordination & Well-being
- Participate in regular supervision check-ins and weekly staff meetings
- Attend team huddles, integration sessions, and in-person meetings where possible
- Engage in professional development opportunities and training (including Asana and internal systems training)
- Contribute to a collaborative, respectful, and supportive team culture
Qualifications & Experience
- Post-secondary degree in Education, Social Sciences, Political Science, Political Economy, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in research, policy, or program coordination
- Strong understanding of climate policy, governance structures, and Indigenous rights systems
- Proven ability to build and maintain respectful, cross-cultural relationships
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for producing reports, briefs, and presentations
- Excellent analytical and research skills with the ability to generate actionable insights
- Strong time management skills with the ability to work under pressure in dynamic environments
- Commitment to anti-oppression, equity, and inclusive practices
- Experience working with Indigenous-led organizations or community structures is an advantage
- Conflict resolution experience is an asset
- Membership in an Indigenous community and fluency in an Indigenous language is an added advantage
