Role Overview
We are looking for a technically skilled professional who will support environmental management systems, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive environmental performance across site operations. The ideal candidate will combine strong analytical ability with hands-on field experience in environmental monitoring and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
As an Environmental Officer, you will:
- Support the implementation and maintenance of Environmental Management Systems (EMS), including documentation and compliance data management.
- Conduct environmental audits and inspections to assess compliance and operational performance.
- Assist in addressing environmental concerns and regulatory requirements across site operations.
- Assess workforce environmental awareness and support targeted training initiatives.
- Participate in HSE meetings to ensure environmental issues are effectively addressed.
- Identify opportunities to reduce environmental impact through waste minimization, water conservation, and energy efficiency initiatives.
- Support internal audits and prepare for external inspections and certifications.
- Coordinate responses to environmental incidents, including spills and hazardous material releases.
- Engage with site personnel and departments to integrate environmental requirements into operations.
- Collaborate with operations, projects, contractors, and procurement teams to ensure compliance.
- Assist in preparing environmental reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Track environmental action items and ensure timely completion.
- Support incident reporting, investigation, and corrective action implementation.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Education, Experience & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemical/Metallurgical Engineering, Chemistry, Biological Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in environmental management within mining, manufacturing, or regulatory environments (e.g., EPA).
- NEBOSH or IEMA environmental certification is an advantage.
- Minerals Commission HSE Officer Certificate of Competency is desirable.
- Valid Ghanaian Class B Driver’s License.
- Strong knowledge of Ghanaian environmental and mining regulations.
- Good understanding of safety management systems, risk management, and environmental compliance processes.
- Practical experience using environmental and occupational health sampling equipment.
