Role Overview

The Human Capital Manager, West Africa drives the development and execution of human resource strategies that align with regional business objectives. This role partners closely with leadership to enhance organizational effectiveness, strengthen employee engagement, and ensure compliance with all relevant labour and industry regulations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HR strategies that support business growth and operational excellence across West Africa.
  • Provide expert guidance on Human Resources and Industrial Relations (IR) matters.
  • Ensure full compliance with labour laws, employment regulations, occupational health and safety standards, and industry-specific requirements.
  • Lead employee relations processes, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and grievance management.
  • Partner with leadership to drive talent acquisition, performance management, succession planning, and employee development.
  • Oversee compensation, benefits, and reward frameworks aligned with company policy and market standards.
  • Manage HR budgets and contribute to financial planning and cost control initiatives.
  • Coach and mentor leaders to strengthen management capability and team effectiveness.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external partners, and regulatory authorities.
  • Analyze HR metrics and present actionable insights to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate HR records and documentation.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of a university degree in a relevant discipline (Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Social Sciences/Arts) or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of HR experience within mining, explosives, or manufacturing industries, including middle-level management experience.
  • Professional qualification or training in Human Resource Management.
  • In-depth understanding of HR and Industrial Relations concepts and practices.
  • Strong knowledge of local labour legislation, employment law, occupational health and safety, pensions, compensation, and benefits.
  • Proven stakeholder management and engagement capability.
  • Demonstrated budgeting and financial management skills.
  • Strong coaching, supervisory, and mentoring ability.
  • Excellent report writing and advanced spreadsheet skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively.
  • Ability to interpret and present high-level HR data and insights.
