Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Natural Resources Solutions to lead and grow our portfolio across key sectors including oil & gas, mining, energy, and agribusiness. In this leadership role, you will drive portfolio performance, provide expert advisory to clients, and strengthen our market presence. You will combine technical expertise with commercial insight to deliver high-impact insurance solutions and lead a high-performing team.


Key Responsibilities

1. Portfolio Strategy & Growth

  • Develop and execute a clear growth strategy aligned with the organization’s overall objectives.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities across oil & gas, mining, energy, agribusiness, and related sectors.
  • Expand market share through client acquisition, retention, and cross-selling initiatives.
  • Own and drive revenue, profitability, and pipeline performance for the Natural Resources portfolio.

2. Client Advisory & Relationship Management

  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior executives and risk managers within client organizations.
  • Lead complex client engagements involving high-risk insurance programmes.
  • Analyze client operations and translate risks into effective and tailored insurance solutions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders.

3. Insurance Technical Leadership

  • Review and provide oversight on policy wordings, endorsements, exclusions, and reinsurance structures.
  • Lead negotiations with local and international insurers and reinsurers.
  • Provide technical leadership on claims, renewals, and loss management strategies.
  • Support clients during incidents, losses, and claims negotiations.
  • Stay current on market trends, pricing movements, capacity shifts, and regulatory developments.
  • Represent the organization in industry forums and specialist engagements.

4. Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop team members within the Natural Resources portfolio.
  • Build technical capability and ensure strong succession planning.
  • Set performance objectives, monitor progress, and drive accountability through effective performance management.
  • Promote collaboration across Global, Corporate, Financial Institutions, and Marketing teams.

5. Governance, Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure all placements and activities comply with regulatory requirements and internal governance standards.
  • Prepare and deliver regular portfolio reports covering revenue, risk exposure, pipeline, and claims.
  • Support audits, management reviews, and board reporting as required.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferred), or a related discipline with strong experience in natural resources or heavy industrial risk environments.
  • Minimum of seven (7+) years’ experience in insurance broking, underwriting, or risk advisory, with significant exposure to natural resources or energy sectors.
  • Professional insurance qualifications such as ACII, ACIIG, or CII are highly desirable.
  • Strong commercial acumen and strategic thinking capability.
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Deep technical knowledge of insurance structures within natural resources industries.
