Role Purpose
The Director of Commercial & Marketing leads the development and execution of the company’s commercial and marketing strategy across English-speaking Africa. The role drives revenue growth, market expansion, and brand positioning while building high-performing teams and scalable commercial frameworks.
You will translate corporate strategy into actionable plans, strengthen distribution networks, and ensure consistent commercial excellence across subsidiaries in both launch and operational phases.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial & Marketing Strategy
- Define and execute a comprehensive commercial and marketing strategy aligned with the Group’s objectives.
- Translate corporate strategy into actionable roadmaps for subsidiaries across multiple markets.
- Continuously refine the commercial model using market insights, customer data, and competitive analysis.
- Contribute to brand positioning and go-to-market strategies in collaboration with Group Marketing.
Leadership & Capability Development
- Recruit, structure, and lead high-performing B2B and B2C commercial and marketing teams.
- Build sales and marketing capabilities, particularly during market entry and expansion phases.
- Develop and standardise commercial processes, tools, and sales methodologies.
- Design and deliver training programmes to enhance team performance and effectiveness.
Distribution & Channel Development
- Design and scale multi-channel distribution networks, including physical, digital, and mobile platforms.
- Develop and manage direct and indirect sales channels and partnerships.
- Negotiate and oversee agreements with distributors and commercial partners.
- Collaborate with internal teams (IT, Finance, Operations, Customer Experience) to ensure seamless execution.
Performance & Revenue Management
- Define revenue targets, KPIs, and performance metrics across subsidiaries.
- Monitor performance through dashboards, reporting tools, and structured reviews.
- Lead sales acceleration initiatives, commercial campaigns, and pre-sales activities.
- Chair commercial committees and lead business reviews and strategic sessions.
Marketing Execution & Customer Insights
- Strengthen customer segmentation and insights to drive targeted marketing strategies.
- Support product launches, promotional campaigns, and customer acquisition initiatives.
- Identify partnership opportunities to expand market reach and ecosystem engagement.
Governance, Processes & Quality
- Establish and enforce best practices in commercial and marketing operations.
- Harmonise processes across subsidiaries to ensure consistency and scalability.
- Conduct audits of commercial activities and implement corrective actions where necessary.
- Lead the adoption of CRM tools to enhance sales effectiveness and customer management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in sales, marketing, or commercial leadership roles.
- Proven experience in both B2B and B2C environments.
- Demonstrated track record of driving revenue growth and market expansion.
- Strong experience in multi-channel distribution and partnership management.
- Experience working across multiple countries or emerging markets is an advantage.
