The Role
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Credit to lead and manage the institution’s credit operations and portfolio management activities. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing sound credit strategies, ensuring effective risk management practices, maintaining portfolio quality, and supporting the institution’s overall business objectives.
This role requires a results-oriented professional with strong leadership capabilities, sound financial expertise, and deep understanding of credit management within the banking sector.
Key Responsibilities
As Head of Credit, you will:
- Lead the development and implementation of the institution’s credit policies, procedures, and risk management frameworks.
- Oversee credit assessment, approval, monitoring, and recovery processes to ensure portfolio quality and regulatory compliance.
- Evaluate credit applications and make recommendations in line with established lending guidelines and risk appetite.
- Monitor credit performance and identify potential risks, trends, and areas for improvement.
- Ensure effective management of non-performing loans and recovery strategies.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the credit team to achieve departmental objectives and operational excellence.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support business growth while maintaining prudent credit risk standards.
- Prepare and present credit portfolio reports and performance analysis to senior management and relevant committees.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal controls, and industry best practices.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within credit operations and portfolio management processes.
Qualifications and Experience
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Banking, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant professional experience, including at least four (4) years in a managerial role, preferably within a community banking environment.
- Strong knowledge of credit analysis, credit administration, and risk management principles.
- Proven leadership and team management experience.
- Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Sound understanding of banking regulations and industry standards.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
