Position Purpose
The Agronomist will provide technical expertise in crop production, soil management, and agricultural best practices to support sustainable farming and optimize crop yields. The successful candidate will conduct research, analyze soil and crop performance, engage with local farming communities, and provide recommendations that improve productivity and agricultural outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Agronomy and Crop Management
- Provide technical support in crop production, soil conservation, and soil management activities.
- Identify and implement strategies to maximize crop productivity and optimize yields from available land resources.
- Conduct field assessments and agronomic evaluations to improve crop performance and farming practices.
- Monitor crop growth and provide recommendations on cultivation techniques, nutrient management, and soil health improvement.
- Support the development and implementation of sustainable agricultural practices.
Research and Analysis
- Design and conduct experiments to assess and improve plant nutrition, soil fertility, and crop productivity.
- Perform laboratory testing and analysis of soil, seed, and crop samples.
- Collect, interpret, and analyze agronomic data to generate actionable insights and recommendations.
- Prepare technical reports, research findings, presentations, and performance summaries.
- Monitor emerging agricultural trends, technologies, and best practices to support continuous improvement.
Farmer Engagement and Stakeholder Collaboration
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local farmers and farming communities.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and support to farmers on agronomic practices and crop management.
- Facilitate knowledge-sharing initiatives aimed at improving agricultural productivity and sustainability.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to support agricultural development programs and business objectives.
- Promote community engagement initiatives that strengthen partnerships across the agricultural value chain.
Operational Support and Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to the planning and execution of agricultural projects and field activities.
- Support data-driven decision-making through accurate reporting and analysis.
- Ensure compliance with relevant agricultural, environmental, and safety standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, and sustainability within farming operations.

Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Soil Science, Crop Science, or a related field.
- Master’s Degree in Agriculture with a specialization in Soil Science or a related discipline will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience as an Agronomist or in a related agricultural role.
- Practical experience in crop production, soil management, and agricultural research.
- Experience working directly with farming communities and agricultural stakeholders is desirable.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of soil science, crop production principles, and agronomic best practices.
- Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to collect, analyze, interpret, and present technical and agricultural data.
- Strong community engagement and stakeholder relationship management skills.
- Ability to build trust and maintain productive relationships with local farmers and agricultural partners.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and project coordination abilities.
- Proactive, results-oriented, and capable of working independently.
- High sense of ownership, accountability, and attention to detail.
- Strong critical thinking and decision-making capabilities.
