Position Summary
The School Nurse will oversee the day-to-day health and wellbeing needs of students and staff, provide basic medical care, manage health records, and support health education initiatives within the school community.
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining a healthy and safe learning environment while working collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and school leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Student Health & Medical Care
- Provide first aid and basic medical care to students and staff during school hours.
- Assess, manage, and document student illnesses, injuries, and health concerns.
- Administer medications in accordance with school policies and medical instructions.
- Monitor students with chronic health conditions and implement individualized health care plans where required.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
Health Promotion & Education
- Promote healthy lifestyles and wellbeing among students and staff.
- Support health awareness campaigns and educational initiatives on topics such as nutrition, hygiene, mental wellbeing, and disease prevention.
- Provide guidance to students and staff on health-related matters.
- Encourage preventive healthcare practices within the school community.
Health & Safety Management
- Monitor and maintain medical supplies, first aid kits, and emergency equipment.
- Ensure the school clinic or health room remains properly stocked and organized.
- Support the implementation of school health, safety, and safeguarding policies.
- Assist in developing and maintaining emergency response procedures.
Parent & Community Engagement
- Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student health concerns and medical needs.
- Collaborate with families to support students requiring ongoing medical attention.
- Coordinate referrals to healthcare providers when necessary.
- Maintain professional relationships with local healthcare facilities and emergency services.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain health documentation and reports in compliance with school policies.
- Monitor student immunization and health records where applicable.
- Support school leadership in health-related planning and compliance activities.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and school events as required.
Qualifications & Educational Requirements
Candidates must possess:
- A Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Valid professional registration and licensing with the relevant nursing regulatory authority.
- Certification in First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) will be an advantage.
Professional Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant nursing experience.
- Experience working in a school, pediatric, community health, or clinical setting will be highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to manage medical situations calmly, professionally, and effectively.
- Experience working with children and adolescents will be considered an advantage.
