Position Summary

The Excavator Operator will safely and efficiently operate excavators to support open-pit mining operations at the Ahafo site. The role focuses on achieving production targets while maintaining strict adherence to safety, environmental, and operational standards.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical ability, situational awareness, and a commitment to teamwork and continuous improvement in a high-performance mining environment.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Operation

  • Operate excavators safely and efficiently in accordance with company procedures and production requirements.
  • Perform excavation, loading, and material handling activities in open-pit mining operations.
  • Control excavator functions, instruments, and gauges effectively to ensure optimal performance.
  • Follow production plans and supervisor instructions to achieve daily operational targets.
  • Ensure efficient use of equipment while minimizing downtime and wear.

Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, environmental, and operational policies.
  • Conduct pre-start inspections and report defects or safety concerns promptly.
  • Identify and report hazards, incidents, and near misses in line with company procedures.
  • Operate in compliance with Mineral Commission regulations and site safety standards.
  • Participate actively in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions.

Equipment Care & Maintenance

  • Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance checks on excavators.
  • Monitor equipment performance and report mechanical issues promptly.
  • Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of assigned equipment.
  • Complete required operational logs and inspection reports accurately.

Operational Support & Teamwork

  • Collaborate effectively with supervisors, dispatchers, and fellow operators.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with peers and leadership.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and safety.
  • Follow instructions accurately and communicate effectively in operational settings.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, applicants must possess:

  • A Senior High School Certificate.
  • A valid Mineral Commission Operators License.
  • A valid Driver’s License Class E.
  • Strong understanding of excavator operation and heavy equipment fundamentals.

Experience

Applicants should have:

  • A minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of excavator operating experience in an open-pit mining environment.
  • Hands-on experience operating heavy mining equipment in a production-focused setting.
  • Proven ability to work safely and efficiently under supervision in mining operations.

The successful candidate should demonstrate:
