Position Summary
The Senior Lecturer in Physiology will contribute to high-quality teaching, research, curriculum development, and academic leadership within the health sciences faculty. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing physiological sciences education, mentoring students, and contributing to the University’s research and academic development agenda.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Deliver engaging and high-quality lectures, tutorials, practical sessions, and seminars in Physiology and related disciplines.
- Develop, review, and update course materials to ensure alignment with current academic standards and scientific advancements.
- Apply innovative and student-centered teaching approaches to enhance learning outcomes.
- Assess student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, dissertations, and academic work.
Research and Scholarship
- Conduct impactful research in Physiology or related biomedical sciences.
- Publish scholarly work in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
- Contribute to the University’s research agenda through conferences, collaborations, and academic dissemination.
- Pursue research grants and contribute to funded research initiatives where applicable.
Academic Leadership and Service
- Participate in curriculum development, programme review, and quality assurance processes.
- Serve on departmental, faculty, and university committees as required.
- Contribute to accreditation processes and institutional development initiatives.
- Mentor junior academic staff and support faculty development.
- Promote academic integrity, professionalism, and continuous improvement in teaching and research.
Student Mentorship and Engagement
- Provide academic advising and mentorship to students.
- Support student development through coaching, guidance, and academic support initiatives.
- Foster an inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environment that encourages academic excellence.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must possess:
- A PhD in Physiology or a closely related discipline from a recognized institution;
OR
- For clinical applicants, a Membership Certificate from a recognized professional body in a relevant medical specialty.
In addition, candidates must:
- Have a minimum of six (6) publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Demonstrate strong evidence of teaching, research, and academic contribution at the tertiary level.
- Show capacity to contribute meaningfully to academic and institutional development.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
The successful candidate should demonstrate:
- Strong expertise in Physiology and related biomedical sciences.
- Proven research record with peer-reviewed publications.
- Excellent teaching, facilitation, and student engagement skills.
- Strong academic writing and communication abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary academic environments.
- Strong mentoring and leadership capabilities.
- Commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and lifelong learning.
- High level of professionalism and ethical conduct.
