Position Purpose
The Finance Officer will provide financial management and accounting support for donor-funded projects and organizational programs. The role will ensure the effective stewardship of financial resources through accurate financial reporting, budget monitoring, compliance with donor and organizational requirements, and strong financial controls.

The Finance Officer will work closely with project teams, grant managers, and finance colleagues to support sound financial management practices that contribute to the successful delivery of World Vision’s development and humanitarian objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management and Reporting
- Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for projects, grants, and organizational programs.
- Monitor project expenditures and ensure spending aligns with approved budgets and donor requirements.
- Review financial transactions and supporting documentation to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
- Support month-end and year-end financial closing processes.
- Assist in preparing management reports and financial analyses to support decision-making.
Grant and Donor Financial Compliance
- Support the financial management of donor-funded projects and grants.
- Ensure compliance with donor regulations, contractual obligations, and World Vision financial policies.
- Monitor grant budgets and expenditure trends, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions where necessary.
- Assist with donor financial reporting and grant reconciliation processes.
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation for audit and donor review purposes.
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Support the preparation of project budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
- Monitor budget utilization and provide regular updates to project and management teams.
- Assist program staff in understanding financial performance and budget management responsibilities.
- Contribute to financial planning processes to ensure efficient resource allocation.
Internal Controls and Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to internal control procedures and financial management standards.
- Support efforts to strengthen financial accountability and stewardship across projects and operations.
- Identify potential financial risks and escalate issues appropriately.
- Assist in implementing recommendations arising from internal and external audits.
- Promote compliance with organizational financial policies and procedures.
Systems and Financial Data Management
- Maintain accurate financial records within approved financial management systems.
- Utilize financial software to process transactions, monitor budgets, and generate reports.
- Ensure financial data integrity and confidentiality.
- Support continuous improvement of financial processes and reporting systems.
Audit and Compliance Support
- Prepare documentation and schedules required for internal and external audits.
- Coordinate responses to audit inquiries and support the implementation of audit recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with statutory, donor, and organizational financial requirements.
- Contribute to maintaining a strong culture of transparency and accountability.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional accounting qualifications or progress toward certification will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in project or grant financial management, preferably within the NGO or international development sector.
- Demonstrated experience managing finances for donor-funded projects and grants.
- Knowledge of donor-funded project accounting requirements, including those of the European Union (EU), USAID, Green Climate Fund (GCF), or World Vision-supported grants.
- Experience preparing financial reports, monitoring budgets, and ensuring compliance with donor requirements.
- Experience supporting audits and implementing financial control measures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial management practices, and grant compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in financial management systems such as SunSystems, Horizon, or similar accounting platforms.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide meaningful insights.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong commitment to accountability, transparency, and responsible stewardship of resources.
