Position Summary
The Senior Specialist – Mining Projects will provide technical expertise in the planning, design, coordination, and execution of underground mining infrastructure and capital projects. The successful candidate will support mine planning activities, integrate engineering designs into operational plans, coordinate project execution, and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Mining Project Planning
- Develop and coordinate underground mining infrastructure and capital project plans that support operational and strategic objectives.
- Integrate project activities into mine planning schedules to ensure efficient execution and minimal operational disruption.
- Support project scoping, feasibility assessments, scheduling, and resource planning.
Technical Design and Engineering Support
- Prepare, review, and optimize underground infrastructure layouts and engineering designs.
- Integrate drill designs and infrastructure layouts into mine planning software to support operational execution.
- Ensure all project designs comply with engineering standards, mine design requirements, and regulatory obligations.
Project Coordination and Delivery
- Coordinate project activities across mining, geology, engineering, maintenance, and contractor teams.
- Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement corrective actions to maintain project timelines and objectives.
- Support capital project evaluations, cost alignment, and operational performance reviews.
Operational Excellence
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance underground infrastructure, project delivery, and operational efficiency.
- Analyse project data and prepare technical reports to support management decision-making.
- Promote best practices in project planning, execution, and documentation.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure all project activities comply with company policies, mining legislation, engineering standards, and safety requirements.
- Participate in underground inspections and project reviews to verify compliance with approved designs and work plans.
- Promote a proactive safety culture by identifying risks and supporting effective mitigation measures.
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Additional training in Project Management or Underground Infrastructure Planning is desirable.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) membership/certification is an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in underground mining, including exposure to mining infrastructure or project-focused roles.
- Demonstrated experience in underground project planning and execution.
- Working knowledge of capital project evaluation, underground mine services design, and project delivery.
- Experience integrating drill designs and underground infrastructure layouts into mine planning software such as Deswik.
- Exposure to contractor-owner alliance environments and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Understanding of project scope development, sequencing, scheduling, and cost alignment within mining operations.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency in Deswik CAD and Microsoft Excel; experience with Deswik Scheduler is an advantage.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Strong technical knowledge of underground mining operations and project execution.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare technical documentation and present project information clearly.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret engineering designs and operational data to support informed decision-making.
- Strong planning, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work underground as required and travel between operational work areas.
- Ability to use computer systems for extended periods in an office environment.
- Physically fit to meet site medical and functional capacity requirements.
- Valid Ghanaian manual driver’s licence.
