Position Summary
The Physician Assistant (Medical) will provide comprehensive clinical care by assessing, diagnosing, treating, and managing patients across a range of medical conditions. The successful candidate will support emergency and primary healthcare services, participate in community health programmes, contribute to clinical governance initiatives, and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe and effective patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care and Patient Management
- Assess, triage, and prioritize patients based on their medical conditions and healthcare needs.
- Conduct confidential patient consultations, including comprehensive history taking, physical examinations, clinical assessments, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient management and care plans.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely patient records in accordance with professional and legal standards.
- Monitor patient progress and recommend appropriate follow-up care or referrals.
Emergency and Procedural Support
- Assist in the delivery of emergency medical care and interventions.
- Support emergency surgical and invasive procedures where required.
- Administer emergency treatments and prescribed therapies.
- Perform minor clinical procedures, including:
- Incision and drainage of abscesses and boils.
- Wound suturing.
- Wound dressing and ongoing wound management.
Inpatient and Clinical Services
- Participate actively in ward rounds and multidisciplinary patient reviews.
- Attend clinical review meetings, morbidity and mortality conferences, and departmental meetings.
- Provide primary healthcare services, including the assessment and management of patients with mental health conditions, and facilitate referrals when appropriate.
- Undertake relief duties at health centres and other designated healthcare facilities as assigned.
Community Health and Health Promotion
- Participate in community outreach programmes and public health initiatives.
- Support maternal and child health services, family planning, and preventive healthcare programmes.
- Promote disease prevention and healthy lifestyle practices through community education.
- Assist with the collection, analysis, and reporting of epidemiological, morbidity, and mortality data.
Communication and Collaboration
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with patients, caregivers, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
- Support the delivery of patient education and health promotion activities.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, professional conferences, and clinical discussions.
- Promote a respectful, compassionate, and patient-centred healthcare environment.
Research and Quality Improvement
- Participate in clinical research, healthcare surveys, and service improvement initiatives.
- Support clinical audits and evidence-based practice activities.
- Contribute to continuous quality improvement programmes that enhance patient outcomes and healthcare delivery.
Health, Safety, and Professional Practice
- Comply with all hospital policies, clinical protocols, and health and safety regulations.
- Promote patient safety and quality care in all clinical activities.
- Participate in mandatory training programmes and continuous professional development activities.
- Maintain professional development records and support annual performance reviews.
- Serve as a role model by upholding the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and patient care.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor of Science (BSc.) degree in Physician Assistantship (Medical) from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of one (1) year of relevant post-qualification clinical experience.
- Valid practicing licence issued by the Medical and Dental Council (MDC), Ghana.
- Demonstrated competence in primary healthcare delivery, clinical assessment, diagnosis, and patient management.
- Strong knowledge of clinical procedures, emergency care, and treatment protocols.

- Excellent clinical assessment, diagnostic, and decision-making skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and respond confidently in emergency situations.
