Position Summary
The Art Teacher – Key Stage 2 will design and deliver inspiring art lessons that encourage creativity, imagination, and artistic expression among primary learners. The successful candidate will create an inclusive and stimulating art environment where students explore different techniques, develop artistic skills, and appreciate the role of art in culture and society.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and Deliver Art Curriculum
- Design and implement a creative, age-appropriate art curriculum that meets the learning needs and abilities of Key Stage 2 students.
- Plan engaging art projects and lessons that encourage exploration, creativity, and skill development.
- Teach a broad range of artistic disciplines, including drawing, painting, sculpture, crafts, and mixed media.
- Introduce students to art history, cultural influences, and artistic appreciation.
Inspire Creativity and Artistic Development
- Demonstrate artistic techniques and provide clear guidance to help students develop their creative abilities.
- Encourage students to experiment, express themselves confidently, and develop their individual artistic styles.
- Support students in building artistic confidence through constructive encouragement and feedback.
Manage Art Resources and Materials
- Maintain and organise art supplies, equipment, and learning resources.
- Select appropriate materials and tools for different projects while ensuring safe and responsible use.
- Promote good studio practices and teach students how to care for art materials and shared resources.
Assess Learning and Provide Feedback
- Evaluate students’ artistic progress through portfolios, projects, classroom activities, and practical demonstrations.
- Provide constructive feedback that helps students improve their technical skills and creative understanding.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and achievement in art.
Create a Positive Art Learning Environment
- Establish an inclusive, inspiring, and organised art classroom that encourages creativity and exploration.
- Promote a safe learning environment where students feel confident taking creative risks.
- Manage classroom activities effectively while supporting positive student behaviour.
Collaborate Across the School Community
- Work with teachers and staff to integrate art into interdisciplinary learning experiences.
- Participate in school exhibitions, creative showcases, and events that celebrate student achievements.
- Support opportunities for students to display and share their artwork with the wider school community.
Engage Parents and Support Community Activities
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding students’ artistic development and progress.
- Participate in or organise art-related events that promote creativity and community engagement.
- Celebrate student achievements through exhibitions and creative presentations.
Maintain Professional Growth
- Stay informed about current trends, techniques, resources, and best practices in art education.
- Participate in professional development workshops, training sessions, and educational conferences.
- Continuously improve teaching approaches to enhance student learning experiences.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate will possess:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Art Education, or a related field.
- A recognised teaching qualification or certification for primary education.
- Previous experience teaching art to Key Stage 2 students will be an advantage.
- Strong artistic ability and a genuine passion for inspiring young learners through art.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
- Creativity, patience, and the ability to motivate and engage children.
- Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate teaching methods.
- Experience working with a variety of art mediums, techniques, and creative processes.
- Experience organising art exhibitions, displays, or creative showcases will be an added advantage.
