Position Summary
The School Librarian will manage the daily operations of the school library, promote reading culture, support research and learning activities, and provide students and teachers with access to quality educational resources. The successful candidate will create an engaging library environment that encourages exploration, independent learning, and information literacy.

Key Responsibilities
Library Management and Organization
- Maintain an organized, welcoming, and engaging library space that encourages reading and exploration.
- Catalogue, label, classify, and shelve books and learning resources according to the library management system.
- Manage and update library collections, including fiction, non-fiction, reference materials, and digital resources.
- Monitor book circulation, maintain borrowing records, and ensure accountability for library materials.
- Identify and recommend new resources that support student learning and curriculum needs.
- Maintain accurate records of library resources and usage.
Reading Promotion and Literacy Support
- Promote a strong reading culture through activities such as storytelling sessions, book talks, reading challenges, author displays, and themed reading events.
- Collaborate with teachers to support literacy programmes and classroom reading objectives.
- Recommend appropriate books and resources based on students’ interests, abilities, and reading levels.
- Organize and support school-wide reading initiatives, including Book Week, Reading Month, and book fairs.
- Encourage students to develop lifelong reading habits and independent learning skills.
Student and Teacher Support
- Guide students in selecting books and resources for research, assignments, and personal reading.
- Support teachers by sourcing relevant learning materials that align with curriculum requirements.
- Teach students basic library, research, and information literacy skills.
- Support students in using digital resources and navigating information effectively.
- Provide assistance in developing research and critical thinking skills.
Record Keeping and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of borrowing activities, overdue materials, and library usage.
- Track student engagement with library resources and activities.
- Prepare periodic reports on library activities, resource usage, and reading initiatives.
- Maintain effective systems for managing library information and resources.
Collaboration and Innovation
- Work closely with teachers to integrate library activities into classroom learning.
- Develop creative approaches, including reading corners, displays, competitions, and book clubs, to promote engagement.
- Encourage student-led initiatives such as peer reading programmes and literary activities.
- Contribute ideas that improve library services and enhance the learning experience.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science, Information Studies, Education, or a related field.
- Professional certification in librarianship, information management, or a related discipline is an added advantage.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a school library, children’s library, or educational environment.
- Strong knowledge of children’s literature, digital literacy tools, and library management systems.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage resources effectively and maintain accurate records.
- Passion for encouraging young readers and supporting students’ academic development.
- Ability to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment.
