We are seeking a skilled and service-oriented ICT Lab Assistant to support the effective operation of our computer laboratories, assist students and staff with technology needs, and contribute to a safe, reliable, and innovative digital learning environment.

Position Summary

The ICT Lab Assistant will support the daily management of the school’s computer laboratories, maintain ICT equipment, provide technical assistance, and ensure that technology resources are available to support teaching and learning. The successful candidate will work closely with the ICT Department and teaching staff to deliver a seamless technology experience for students and educators.

Key Responsibilities

Computer Laboratory Operations and Hardware Management

  • Manage the daily opening, closing, and operational readiness of computer laboratories.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of ICT assets, including computers, printers, peripherals, and other technology equipment.
  • Track hardware lifecycle, maintenance requirements, replacements, and upgrades.
  • Perform routine hardware checks, diagnose faults, and coordinate repairs with the ICT Systems team.
  • Ensure all computer workstations are fully functional and equipped with the required software before scheduled lessons.
  • Maintain organised and efficient laboratory spaces that support effective teaching and learning.

Systems Administration and Cybersecurity Support

  • Assist with the management of student user accounts, access permissions, and network-based student files.
  • Support the administration of systems used within the school’s ICT environment.
  • Implement and monitor basic cybersecurity practices, including antivirus updates and data backup procedures.
  • Monitor computer laboratory network connectivity and escalate technical issues to the Network Administrator when required.
  • Promote safe computing practices and ensure compliance with data protection requirements, including the responsible handling of student and staff information.
  • Support the protection of digital resources through effective security practices.

Instructional and Curriculum Support

  • Provide classroom and lesson support during short-term teacher absences by delivering pre-prepared learning materials and supervising students.
  • Assist teachers in preparing ICT-based learning activities that align with curriculum objectives.
  • Support students and teachers in the effective use of educational technology tools.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and recommend improvements that enhance digital learning experiences.

Health, Safety, and Compliance

  • Enforce computer laboratory rules and procedures to maintain a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment.
  • Conduct regular safety checks on ICT equipment and report potential hazards promptly.
  • Ensure electrical equipment is used safely and responsibly.
  • Support the responsible disposal of obsolete ICT equipment in line with environmental and institutional policies.
  • Follow all school safeguarding, child protection, health, and safety requirements.

Administrative and Technical Support

  • Maintain accurate records of equipment inventories, repairs, software installations, and technical activities.
  • Prepare technical documentation and reports where required.
  • Provide general ICT support to students and staff.
  • Perform other duties reasonably assigned by the Head of Department to support the effective operation of the school’s ICT infrastructure.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate will possess:

Essential Qualifications

  • A Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Relevant professional certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft, Google, Cisco, or equivalent certifications will be an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, networking, and educational software applications.

Essential Experience

  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in ICT support, ICT laboratory management, or systems administration.
  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining desktop computers, laptops, printers, and peripheral devices.
  • Experience supporting users within a networked environment, including account management and access control.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and updating software applications and operating systems.
  • Experience working in an educational environment or supporting learning technologies will be an advantage.
